In order to teach students a desirable literary education at school, it is important to choose the proper works. It is also very important to connect the work and the curriculum, to set up the teaching aims properly and to utilize a variety of learning activities.
This paper has observed the modern novel within the 16 textbooks currently applied in the 10th grade Korean textbook of 2007 Educational Curriculum Revision. In addition, the circular-relation between the literature in the textbook and the learning activity curriculum was observed in relation to the learning aims.
Today the novel works of the high school national language textbook, the work which was selected as the most suitable in accomplishing curriculum standards shows to be insufficient.
The novel-based activities have little connection with the learning aim.
In recent decades. well-mated with multi-culturalism and the work which acts as a unity literature must open the door and include foreign works.
If this were to happen, literary education will be taught more effectively.

학교에서 바람직한 문학 교육을 하기 위해서는 작품 선정이 매우 중요하다. 그리고 그 작품을 가지고 교육과정과 연계하여 학습목표를 어떻게 세우고 어떤 학습활동을 해나가는가도 중요하다.
본고에서는 2007 개정 교육과정 적용 10학년 ‘고등학교 국어’ 16종 교과서에 수록된 문학 작품 중 현대소설을 대상으로 소설 제재의 현황에 대해 살펴보았다. 아울러 교과서의 문학 관련 단원의 학습활동이 교육과정 성취와 관련해서 학습목표를 어떻게 구현하고 있는지 살펴보았다.
고등학교 국어 교과서의 현대소설 작품들은 대체로 교육과정 성취기준에 적합한 작품이 선정되었지만, 교육과정 성취기준에 다소 미흡한 작품도 있었다. 그리고 소설 수록 단원의 학습활동이 학습목표와 연관성이 적은 경우도 있었다.
교과서 소설 작품은 교육과정의 성취기준 달성에 적합한 작품을 선정하되, 현 시대에 걸맞게 다문화와 통일을 다룬 작품, 지역 문학에 대해 열려있어야 하고, 외국작품에 대해서도 문을 열어야 한다. 그리고 학습목표는 교육과정을 구현하는 목표가 제시되어야 하고, 그 학습목표를 달성하기 위한 학습활동도 연관성 있게, 구체적으로, 더 정교하게 제시되어야 한다. 그렇게 함으로써 문학교육을 더 효율적으로 해나갈 수 있을 것이다.
