This study aims to improve of urban structural main elements, to consist the street networks, residential buildings and urban landscapes and to find out necessary planning directions for development of urban structure in Ulaanbaatar (UB) city. For this purpose, this study reviewed the sustainable type of urban structural main elements and found out the strategies to solving problems of urban structure in our city. Then it reviewed the interrelations between these strategies and main elements toward sustainable development. Therefore, this study derived most significant elements to sustainable type which can be suited more in urban structure of UB city: street block, mixed use, and green area. Based on these elements, this study analysis urban structure and describes planning directions for development of urban structure in UB city. As a result of this study, we derived main planning directions for sustainable urban structure in UB city that are street blocks to well designed and connected street networks, mixed use to more innovative residential building types with livable communities, and generous urban landscape to maximize green area.

본 연구는 몽골 울란바타르 시의 지속가능한 도시구조의 개발을 위해, 도시구조의 주요구성인 가로망(Street networks), 주거건물(Residential building), 도시경관(Urban landscape)의 개선 및 개발의 방향을 찾는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해서 선행연구로서 도시공간구조의 주요구성의 지속가능한 유형과 전략을 도출하였다. 가로망에서 가로블럭, 주거건물의 복합용도, 도시경관에서는 녹지공간이 지속가능한 유형의 가장 핵심요소로서 도출되었으며, 이를 바탕으로 울란바타르 시의 문제점을 도출하고 개선을 위한 적합한 전략들을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 결과로, 울란바타르의 지속가능한 도시구조를 위한 주요계획방향으로 잘 계획되고 연계된 가로망을 위한 가로블록과 커뮤니티 형성에 적합한 주거건물로의 유형변화를 위한 복합용도가 요구되며, 도시경관에 있어서는 녹지 확보를 최대화 하는 것이 필요하다고 확인되었다.
