The purpose of this study is to understand the universal trends of contemporary office design and give the appropriate design guidelines of upcoming design for office spaces in South Korea. Impressive and consistent design characters for visitors as well as proper working environments for employees would be the most important issues for current office space design. The research was analyzed with the characteristic office design styles based on the various architectural and interior magazines from 2008 to 2011, and categorized as a grid configuration, organic composition, linear configuration, and centripetal arrangement. In order to have practical office design guidelines, the data was collected through questionnaire surveys from the employees of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Heerim Architects & Planners and other various companies. Each two representative images for four samples of office space are preferred and analyzed by the statistics. As a result ‘organic composition’ for office design was most preferred. Also of all those questioned agreed that office design should be reflected not only in characteristic form and space for fitting the company's image, but also considered for efficient work environment.

본 논문은 현대사회에 있어서 업무공간 디자인의 세계적인 흐름을 이해하고, 한국의 향후 업무 공간 디자인이 보다 현대적인 디자인으로 나아 갈 수 있도록 유용한 지표를 보여주는데 본 연구의 목적과 의의가 있다. 업무공간의 디자인은 인상적이면서 사용자적 측면을 충분히 고려한 적절한 근무환경의 추구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. 이 연구는 2008년부터 2011년 까지 최근 3 년간의 건축 및 인테리어 전문 잡지들을 바탕으로 하여 업무 공간 디자인을 격자형, 유기적, 직선형, 그리고 원형 구성으로 나누어 각 유형의 특징적인 면을 파악하고자 하였다. 또한 실용적인 디자인에 대한 기초연구 자료로서 활성화를 기여하는 목적으로 현대건설, 희림건축, 그리고 그외 여러 대규모의 회사 근무자들의 설문조사를 바탕으로 유형별로 대표로 추출된 각 2장의 이미지를 대상으로 선호도 순위를 세우고 통계학적으로 분석하였다. 결과로는 유기적인 구성을 가장 선호하였으며 모든 설문자들이 업무공간의 디자인이 회사의 이미지와 부합해야 한다고 생각하였고 작업능률에 영향을 준다고 응답하였다.
