This study developed and evaluated a divorce parenting education program which aimed to increase parents’ understanding how to raise their children during and after divorce processes. Parents’ understanding of child raising after divorce is expected to reduce negative effects on children in divorce families. The developed program was a 2-session (4 hours) short-term divorce parenting program. The program was held for nine divorced mothers at a community welfare center two times. To examine the effects of the parenting program, participants’ perception of parenting of divorce and subjective quality of live were measured by survey questionnaires before and after participation in the program. The analysis results revealed that participants’ understanding parenting in divorce situation and satisfaction of subjective quality of life were significantly increased. The results provide valuable insights to develop short-term program for divorcing and divorced parents. Since this study is exploratory research, further studies are recommended with evidence-based practice principles.

본 연구는 이혼하는 부모들이 자녀양육을 어떻게 해야 하는지에 대한 정보전달 차원의 단기(4시간) 부모교육 프로그램을 개발해보고 이를 현장에서 실행하고 그 효과를 살펴보았다. 프로그램의 실행은 복지관의 이혼지원센터를 통해 2차례에 걸쳐 실시하였고, 동일집단 사전-사후 검증을 하였다. 그 결과 이혼부모교육에 참여한 여성 부모들은 이혼 후 자녀양육과 자녀양육의 파트너로서의 전배우자와의 관계설정 등에 대하여 유의미한 인식변화를 보였다. 또한 이혼 부모 자신의 주관적 삶의 질과 삶의 만족도가 유의미하게 상승되었다. 본 연구 결과는 비교집단이 없이 단일집단 사전-사후 검사의 결과이므로 제한점이 있다. 그러나 이혼 후 자녀양육과 관련된 다양한 질문들에 대하여 고민해보고 소그룹을 이용한 교육을 통해 이러한 문제에 대하여 집중적으로 다루는 것이 매우 도움이 되었다고 보고하고 있다. 앞으로 이혼과정에서 양산되는 다양한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 사회와 학계는 공동으로 노력해야하는 과제를 안고 있는데, 본 연구는 현장에서 꼭 필요한 개입 방안을 제안하고 시범적으로 시도해보았다는 점에서 그 의의를 지니고 있다고 하겠다.
