In Japanese language, the form is occasionally used to express the time. About this, Toyota (1987) said that it is natural to use the form to describe things that would certainly happen as the time passes. According to what Yokobayashi ＆ Shimomura (1988) said about the meaning and the usage of the form, or is used synonymously with the form. Morita (1990) said that <~tatokini>, <~tekara> have the same usage as well. In this study, I researched about the terms of usage and the meaning and the usage of the form, and the reason why it is used to express future times. I also tried to find out the differences between and <~tekara>, <~taatode>, and . It seems like the form -which expresses the future time- has two situations combined together, giving attention to the context, but actually it is showing when the consequent happened, based on the fact that both listener and speaker already know, and replacing time with a situation. This is used when it is hard to tell a certain moment bluntly. It is also used when the speaker longs that the moment mentioned with the form would never happen. Of course the form contains the meanings of <~tekara>, <~taatode>, and , but because it has its own meaning as well, it is hard to say that the form has the same meaning with those four forms.

日本語では因果関係の｢条件｣の形式が時間関係の｢トキ｣の表現として用いられることがある。これに対して 、豊田 (1987)は｢時間がたてば必ずそうなると決まっている未来のことを、条件の形で言うもの｣としており、その意 味用法に ついて横林ㆍ下村(1988)は｢その時｣または｢その後で｣、森田(1990)は｢~タトキニ、~テカラ｣と同じだとしてい る。 本研究では、未来のトキを表す｢タラ｣文の使用条件と意味用法などについて調べ、トキの表現に何故条件の形 が用 いられているのかを考察した。それから｢タラ｣と｢テカラ｣｢タアトデ｣、また｢トキ｣｢トキニ｣との違いについて も考え てみた。 未来のトキの｢タラ｣文は、一見二つの事態が組み合わせられ、それら二つの前後関係に注目しているかのよう に見え るが、実は、話し手と聞き手が共有する前提に基づいて、トキに代わる状況を前件に持ち出し、後件の発生 時点を表し ているのである。これは、何らかの理由で時間をそのまま露に表すのを避けたいか、あるいはそのトキがは っきりと分 からないような時に用いられている。また、この｢タラ｣文は、前後文脈によっては、その前件が起こるはずが ない、承 知しないなどと、まるで仮定条件のように用いられることがあるが、これは皮肉や切実な願望などを表そう とする用法 であって、未来のトキの｢タラ｣文の一特徴と見ることができる。なお、この｢タラ｣文は、内面に｢テカラ｣｢タア トデ｣、 また｢トキ｣｢トキニ｣の意味を持ってはいるものの、｢タラ｣文独特の意味用法をも持っているため、これらの形 式との実 際の置き換えは多少無理があるように思われる。
