As the demand for Korean language education is widening, learners with diverse cultural and religious backgrounds are increasing. Muslim learners of Korean language also are increasing in Korean and abroad. This paper is an attempt to find out elements which should be considered for teaching Korean effectively to learners with Muslim backgrounds. For this purpose the author looks into some features of Islam and characteristics of Saudi Arabia and then measures by means of a questionnaire how Saudi Arabian learners of Korean language adapt themselves to the Korean language and culture. The paper present comments of the personal experiences of teachers who have been in charge of classes with Saudi Arabian learners. The research shows that, while studying in Korea, the Saudi Arabian learners are experiencing maladjustments in psychological factors such as homesickness and cultural shock, and in attitude factors such as familiarity with the Korean culture, contacts with Koreans, difficulty in Korean language use and living in Korea.
