The aim of this paper is to study the incrementality of language processing from a psycholinguistic perspective. In particular, the paper in-depth studies the different variables that influence the normative order of attributive adjectives by looking into the normative order of attributive adjectives. Accordingly, the incrementality of semantic processing at semantic, functional and pragmatics level is primarily examined, followed by an experiment related to attributive adjectives. This paper reviews this experiment, showing that the online characteristic of eye movements provides a detailed profile of the processes that underlie real-time written language comprehension.
