The goals of the present study are to examine the levels of NNS teachers’ classroom communicative competence, and its relation of their English use in class. Data was collected from forty-seven(N=47) NNS secondary school English teachers and twelve(N=12) NS instructors who participated in the six-month intensive teacher training program in South Korea. The teacher trainees and NS instructors diagnosed trainees’ classroom communicative competence using two different instruments; 1) a proficiency guideline to the levels of the trainees’ four language skills(L/S/R/W) in classroom communicative competence, 2) a proficiency guideline to the levels of the trainees' specific language use for TEE class. The trainees also answered the proportion of their English use in class. The data analysis has shown that there were the significant relations between the diagnosis from both trainees and instructors on the trainees’ classroom communicative competence, and the proportion of trainees’ English use in class. Implications of the findings are discussed.
