If Eros is the desire that someone make to unify with his(her) lover, the Eros presupposes the lack. The terms for 'lack' listed relate to 'need' and 'satisfaction'. There are two fairs of terms, satiable being-satisfied being and loving being-loved being under the mechanism of need and satisfaction. We considered a desire and love from a subjective position, but Levinas is referring to a Desire that can’t seem to get enough. Levinas wants to explain the Desire without satisfaction in the concept of alterity. This thesis is to present a critical comment on Dr. Park’s "The problem of Eros and Other of Levinas" and aims to understand Levinas’s philosophy of the Other. I will discuss the difference of 'need' and 'Desire', the relation of two, and look for his alterity as a femininity.

에로스가 자기가 사랑하는 자와 하나가 되고자 하는 온전함에 대한 열망일 때, 에로스의 이면에는 이미 현재의 결핍이 전제되어 있다. 결핍이 전제된 욕망-충족의 메커니즘에는 충족하는 ‘나’와 충족되는 ‘너’, 사랑하는 ‘나’와 사랑받는 ‘너’와 같은 이분법이 전제된다. 또한 욕망과 사랑은 충족하고 사랑하는 주체의 입장에서 논의된다. 이러한 욕망 이해에는 레비나스가 비판하려고 했던 서구의 주체 중심적 사유가 내포되어 있다. 결핍과 충족에 내포된 주체 중심적인 ‘에로스’가 레비나스적인 타자 철학의 구도에서 어떻게 논의될까? 레비나스는 에로스를 온전함에 대한 열망으로 규정하지 않으며, 충족 없는 욕망을 통해 타자 중심적 사유를 전개한다. 이 글은 ｢레비나스의 에로스와 타자의 문제｣에 대한 논평과 함께 레비나스의 에로스 개념에서 드러난 타자 철학을 이해하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 우선, 레비나스의 욕구와 욕망에 대한 관계 설정을 이해하고, 에로스의 설명 과정에서 드러난 여성성으로서의 타자성에 관해 논의하고자 한다.
