Philosophers and theologians of the 20th and 21th centuries are facing with the question "How is it still possible to talk about God after the rise of the logical positivism and Heidegger's criticism of ontotheology?" This paper is devoted to a search for the possible answer of Levinas on this question. Levinas frequently has mentioned about God more and more in his later phase of his work and showed great interest in the possibility to talk about God. His position is pronounced mostly clearly in the class notes of his last lecture at Sorbonne in the years of 1975 and 1976, edited and annotated by Jacques Rolland and published in 1983, and a 1975 paper titled "God and Philosophy." Focussing on these two writings of Levinas, first of all, the continuity of Heideggerian critique of traditional metaphysics and Levinasian philosophy of God is discussed; second, the way how Levinas tried to go beyond Heidegger's "ontological difference" is traced; third, the close relationship between the idea of the infinite and the Other on the one hand and the problem of God, on the other, is disclosed. The ambiguity Levinasian idea of God implies is shown in terms of the question "Was Levinas an athesit?"

논리실증주의의 대두와 하이데거의 존재신학 비판 이후, 신학자와 철학자들은 “신에 관한 이야기가 아직도 가능한가?”하는 물음에 직면한다. 이 글은 타자성의 철학을 전개한 레비나스가 이 물음에 어떻게 답하는지를 살펴본다. 레비나스는 그의 작업 후반기에 이르러 비교적 자주 신에 대한 언급을 할 뿐 아니라 신의 문제와 자신의 타자성의 철학의 깊은 연관성을 드러낸다. 신 문제에 관한 레비나스의 입장이 비교적 선명하게 드러난 작품은 레비나스가 1975년과 76년 소르본에서 했던 마지막 강의와 이 강의와 비슷한 시기에 쓴 신과 철학이란 논문이다. 이 글은 이 두 저작을 중심으로 첫째, 하이데거의 존재 신학 비판과 레비나스의 연속성을 드러낸다. 두 번째로 하이데거의 존재 신학 비판을 레비나스가 어떻게 계승하면서 동시에 극복을 시도하는지를 탐구한다. 세번째로 타자와 무한의 이념이 신 문제와 밀접하게 관련되는 방식으로 드러낸다. 끝으로 레비나스는 무신론자인가라는 물음을 통해 레비나스의 신 개념이 안고 있는 애매성을 드러낸다.
