Recently picture book illustration is extended to high quality dimension which gives influence on children's emotion and development of activity. The colors applied in these books improve the range of children's thinking ability and give significant influences on their emotion when we take consideration on the fact that children's thinking ability is greatly influenced by perceptive aspects. This study analyzed colors of children's books which appropriately used color symbolism to find its importance and objectify psychological meaning of color expression. As a result of the study, we have found that the experience of colors has a great influence on the children's perceptive development in their growth.
Those books chosen were classified in terms of contents, characters' emotion, and colors. The result told us that children's books should use relevant colors according to the contents and the general atmosphere of the story with good connection. As they grow up their various emotion they will experience can be experienced through picture books and they can learn how to overcome stress in the future. In the picture books, various and creative illustration techniques should be used relevantly and significantly with the depth of contents. In addition to the variety and creativity of colors, colors must have relevant symbolism of the story in children's picture books.

최근 그림책 일러스트레이션은 유아의 정서와 행동발달에 영향을 주는 고차원적 영역으로 확장되고 있다. 이러한 그림책에 적용된 색채는 유아의 사고가 지각적 특징에 의해 큰 영향을 받는 것을 고려했을 때 유아에게 사고 범위를 향상시키고 정서적으로 많은 영향을 끼치는 등 매우 중요한 역할을 한다.
본 연구는 색채의 상징성을 적절하게 활용한 유아용 그림책의 색채 표현 분석을 통해 그 중요성을 확인하고 심리적 색채표현을 객관화 하는데 의의가 있다. 문헌연구 결과, 유아의 지각발달이 성장단계에 있어 색채의 경험과 영향의 중요성을 재확인할 수 있었다. 선정된 그림책을 내용과 등장인물의 감정, 색채의 세 가지 관점에서 살펴본 결과, 유아용 그림책은 내용 흐름과 전반적인 분위기를 고려한 구성에 따라 적절한 색채가 적용되어야 하며 연결성이 좋아야 한다.
앞으로 성장하면서 경험하게 될 다양한 감정을 그림책을 통해서 체험하면서 어떻게 극복하며 해소할 것인지 다양한 일러스트레이션의 표현기법이 내용의 깊이와 의미적절하게 반영하여야 한다. 또한 색채는 다양하고 독창적으로 사용됨과 동시에 상징성을 내포한 적절한 의미 표현이 그림책의 이야기와 균등하게 이루어져야 한다.
