Urban colors have been gradually recognized as the most important part to visually differentiate urban images and a means of enhancing competitive power and establishing urban identity. In such perspective, our urban landscape should be differentiated from those of other cities through organizing its unique characteristics.
This study aims to present directions and guidelines on colors of urban landscape through identifying the current condition of the landscape centering on color components as a plan to enhance urban competitive power.
The study planned to realize urban identity through colors based on culture, climate, history and vision of Yeosu as an international city which will hold 2012 World Expo.
For the purpose, the study investigated and analysed cases of urban colors, and identified the problems in them. Based on the results, basic directions and guidelines on urban colors were developed.
It is suggested that the guidelines on urban colors proposed provide directions on colors for various urban landscapes, which will contribute to enhancement of advanced urban image through connection with 2012 World Expo as well as establishment of differentiated urban identity of Yeosu.

도시색채는 도시경관을 구성하는 요소들 중에서 도시이미지를 시각적으로 차별화시켜 주는 가장 중요한 분으로서 도시의 경쟁력 강화 및 정체성 확립을 위한 수단으로서 인식이 커지고 있다.
이와 같은 관점에서 도시경관의 특성을 색채이미지를 통하여 체계적으로 정립하여 타 도시와의 차별화를 유도하는 도시색채 개발의 필요성이 날로 증대되고 있는 시점에 있다.
본 연구는 도시 경쟁력 강화를 위한 방안의 일환으로서 도시경관에 대하여 색채 구성요소를 중심으로 는 현황파악을 통하여 도시경관 색채의 방향 및 가이드라인을 수립하는데 그 목적이 있다.
본 연구에서는 2012년 세계박람회 개최도시인 여수시를 대상으로 하여, 국제도시로서 문화와 풍토, 역사, 비전 등 지역의 정체성을 살릴 수 있는 색채를 해 도시 정체성을 구현할 수 있도록 하였다.
이러한 방법으로 도시색채와 관련한 사례분석, 도시경관을 구성하는 색채현황 등을 조사 분석하고 제반 문제점을 파악하여 이를 바탕으로 한 도시색채의 본방향을 설정하고 그 가이드라인을 수립하였다.
제안된 도시색채 가이드라인은 다양한 도시경관 색채의 방향을 제공하여, 여수시의 차별화된 도시정체성 확립은 물론 향후 개최되는 2012년 세계박람회와 연계하여 선진 도시이미지 제고에 기여할 것으로 사료된다.
