It can be seen that the purpose of Christian social welfare to seek human real happiness is microscopically to restore humans as the Image of God and macroscopically to spread the Kingdom of God into society. Then, what does restoring the Image of God and spreading the Kingdom of God mean specifically in social welfare field? This study suggests that for restoring the Image of God is enhancing human independence and restoring the reciprocal relationship between service receivers and service providers, and that for spreading the Kingdom of God is pursuing universal welfare and equality, distributive justice, and social integration. In other words, the purpose of Christian social welfare in the microscopic dimension is, first, to change people into independent and responsible people who can solve their own problems by their own capability and strength, and second, to restore the relationship between the service receivers and service providers as the relationship of love, service, truth, and gratitude. In the macroscopic dimension, the purpose of Christian social welfare is, first, to practice universal(or institutional) welfare which the disadvantaged can use without the sense of humiliation and insult, and second, to seek equality, distributive justice, and social integration which are the order and principles of the Kingdom of God. And this study argues that the restoring the Image of God and spreading the Kingdom of God as the ultimate purpose of Christian social welfare are based upon receiving the Christian basic doctrine and the work of Holy Spirit.

인간의 진정한 행복을 추구하기 위한 기독교사회복지의 목적은 미시적으로는 인간을 하나님 형상으로 회복시키고, 거시적으로는 사회에 하나님 나라를 확장시키는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그렇다면 하나님 형상의 회복과 하나님 나라의 확장이라는 기독교사회복지의 목적은 구체적으로 사회복지 실천현장에서 어떠한 의미를 지니고 있을까? 본 연구에서는 하나님 형상의 회복을 위해 인간의 자주성 강화, 서비스 수급자와 제공자의 호혜적 관계가 필요하다고 보았고, 하나님 나라의 확장을 위해 보편주의 원칙 추구, 평등·정의로운 분배·사회통합이 필요하다고 보았다. 다시 말해, 미시적 차원에서 기독교사회복지의 목적은 첫째, 자신의 능력과 강점으로 자신이 겪고 있는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 자주적이고 책임감 있는 인간으로 변화시키는 것이고, 둘째, 서비스 수급자와 제공자의 관계를 사랑과 섬김, 신뢰와 감사의 호혜적 관계로 회복시키는 것이다. 거시적 차원에서 기독교사회복지의 목적은 첫째, 사회적 약자들이 수치와 모욕 없이 사회복지서비스를 이용할 수 있는 보편적인 복지를 실천하는 것이고, 둘째, 하나님 나라의 질서와 원칙인 평등, 정의로운 분배, 사회통합을 추구하는 것이다. 그리고 본 연구에서는 기독교복지의 궁극적인 목적인 하나님 형상의 회복과 하나님 나라의 확장은 기독교의 기본 교리에 대한 수용과 성령의 역사가 전제되어야 한다고 보았다.
