Ministry focuses on to care human beings following to God’s word in order to experience transformation and healing. It is very specific because it has finally been accomplished by the Word. In general, pastoral care in the Korean church has been accompanied with visiting church member’s home(Simbang) and pastoral counseling in personal or group well. It has been accompanied by the Word faithfully. Of course, it is also conducted in corporate worship and prayer meetings effectively, and in the preaching ministry for healing, guiding, and sustaining congregations. In the stream, some Korean pastors suggested a new terminology, ‘counseling preaching’, for the function to help and take care of people. It has been a widespread term in the Korean church, but it is true to make some confusions. What is counseling preaching? With an emphasis on listening, empathy, and acceptance, counseling has been viewed as a means to assist persons in crises with specific issues, whereas preaching is more generally directed as proclamation of God’s Word. Even though many books on the subject, the tension and confusion have remained. This article moves on a quest for counseling preaching arguing that counseling and preaching can reflect common understanding to help people and provide proper pastoral care for congregations in trouble through God’s Word, although there are differences in function, methodology, and theological aspect. It aims on a homiletical evaluation and suggestions about counseling preaching.

목회는 하나님의 말씀을 규범으로 인간을 돌보는 사역이며 변화와 회복을 경험할 수 있도록 돕는 작업이다. 목회는 돌봄의 사역이지만 하나님의 말씀을 통해 이루어진다는 점에서 특수한 사역이다. 일반적으로 한국교회 목회 현장에서는 심방이나 개인적이든 공동체적 회집을 통한 상담 창구를 통해 이러한 목회적 돌봄의 기능을 잘 수행해 왔으며, 그 중심에는 언제나 하나님의 말씀이 중심을 이루어왔다. 이러한 돌봄의 기능은 교회의 공예배의 자리에서도 수행되어 왔으며, 특별히 하나님의 말씀의 선포인 설교는 어려움 가운데 있는 성도들을 치유하고, 지탱시켜주며, 인도하는 일을 잘 수행해 왔다. 이러한 특성과 중요성 때문에 작금에는 목회 상담적 기능이 설교의 자리에서도 주어져야 한다는 인식이 생겨나면서 ‘상담설교’라는 용어로 회자되고 있다. 이것은 예배나 설교가 이러한 기능을 수행해 왔기 때문이기도 하고 목회적 돌봄이 하나님의 말씀과 연결되어온 점에서 뿐만 아니라 마땅히 그리되어야 한다는 당위성에서 제기된 내용이라고 보면 새로울 것은 없는 주장이지만 다소의 혼란이 야기되고 있는 것도 사실이다. 1990년 후반부터 사용되기 시작하여 널리 사용되고 있고 많이 보편화 된 용어이지만 이것을 기능적인 측면에서 이해해야 할 것인지, 아니면 어떤 설교 형태론적 관점에서 이해해야 할지에 대해서는 명확하게 규정되지 않은 채 사용되고 있는 상황이다. 이러한 점에서 본고는 한국교회 현장에서 많이 회자되고 있는 ‘상담설교’에 대한 설교 신학적 평가를 제시하는데 목적이 있다.
