This study is designed to examine the formative and transformative functions of liturgical spirituality in corporative worship and suggest a new paradigm for the Korean church which is undergoing both inward and outward serious crisis in stopping its steady expanding and losing its social confidence. The study introduces the pastors to the dynamic and formative power of corporative worship, responding to the central question, “what happens when people worship God?” The liturgical spirituality will be examined from a number of different angles, Further, the study will explore how Christian formation through worship shapes our experience of God and how biblically and theologically planned worship can increase that experience. The central principle of this study is that worship is corporate spiritual formation, and worship is the most primary place where we as a church and our ministry can spiritually be formed through corporative worship since our worshipping together helps to form us spiritually. Worship really the workshop where the Holy Spirit works to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ so that we might praise and glorify God more fully and freely. Spiritual life and growth is a communal exercise and happens within the context of the community of God’'s people. For the purpose of the study, we will first deal with our ministry biblically and theologically based upon Jesus' spirituality in his self-serving ministry. And the study will examine the principles of spiritual formation through worship, becoming more attentive to the dynamics of God’'s presence in worship, and understand how these experiences shape and change our lives as God's people. The study will moreover analyze the process and content of the communal transformation in corporative worship to better understand how that forms people spiritually in worship. Finally, we will briefly suggest a new paradigm for pastors to become practical theologians of worship who develop the reflective skills to create thoughtful worship.

본 연구는 공동 예배가 지니고 있는 영성에 관한 신학적 성찰을 통해 최근 교회 안으로 성장둔화현상과 밖으로 사회적 공신력 상실 그리고 공동 예배의 영향력 및 횟수의 감소로 나타나는 한국교회의 위기 현상들에 대해 새로운 목회 패러다임을 제시하려는 하나의 시도이다. 이런 한국교회의 대표적인 문제들에 대한 연구와 분석, 그리고 대안들은 학문적으로 영성 목회에 관한 신학적 연구의 필요성을 촉구할 뿐 아니라, 목회적으로도 올바른 영성 목회의 회복과 지속적인 변화, 그것도 외적인 변화보다 영적 변화를 가능케 하는 패러다임의 필요성을 언급한다. 본 연구는 한국교회의 주요 위기 현상들을 목회자들이 영성 목회에 대해 잘못 알고 있거나 영성을 상실하게 된 문제들을 발견함으로 시작되었다. 한국교회의 문제들은 주로 영성 목회의 본질, 능력, 그리고 공동체성의 상실로 나타난다. 첫째로, 한국교회의 각 교단들과 개 교회들은 경쟁적으로 양적 성장을 추구하는 목회 분위기를 조장함으로 영성 목회의 본질인 섬김의 행위를 상실하였다. 둘째로, 한국교회의 목회자들과 교인들의 윤리성 하락으로 인한 사회적 공신력 상실이 영성 목회의 변화 능력을 상실하게 만들었다. 셋째로, 한국교회가 개교회주의적이며 기복적 신앙을 추구하는 목회 패러다임을 추구함으로 하나님 나라와 그 나라의 의를 구해야 할 교회의 정체성을 무시한 것이 영성 목회의 공동체성 또는 공동체적 영성을 상실하게 만들었다. 이와 같은 한국교회의 문제들을 해결하기 위해 본 연구는 공동 예배의 영성이 교회 공동체 안에 점진적이면서 동시에 지속적인 영적 변화를 일으킴으로 새로운 영성 목회의 분위기를 창출할 수 있다는 전제로부터 출발한다. 예배가 하나님의 임재를 가장 지속적으로 경험하도록, 그리고 하나님의 사람들이라는 정체성을 통해 영적 변화를 공동체적으로 경험하기 위해 제공되는 현장이기 때문이다. 영적 변화는 실제로 진행되는 하나의 영적 과정에서 일어난다. 하나님께서 이런 변화를 일으키기 위해 우리에게 주신 주요 방법이 바로 예배이다. 본 연구는 앞에서 제시된 한국교회 목회의 주요 문제들을 해결하기 위한 새로운 영성 목회의 패러다임을 제시하기 위해 영적 변화의 구체적인 과정을 중심으로 세 단계로 진행된다. 첫째로, 영성 목회의 모범을 보여준 예수의 몸과 물질로 표현하는 목회를 살펴봄으로 영성 목회에 대한 새로운 신학적 준거를 제시한다. 둘째로, 공동 예배에서 일어나는 영적 변화의 구체적인 과정을 살펴봄으로 예배의 영성에 대한 새로운 이해를 제시한다. 마지막으로, 연구의 결과로 한국교회를 위한 새로운 영성 목회의 패러다임을 제시한다.
