『Yimhapilgi』(林下筆記. 39 books of manuscripts in Chinese character) is one of the famous works by Lee Yu-won (李裕元. 1814-1888), and it is a natural historical and encyclopediac writing that integrates various areas such as politics, economics, society, culture, history, ideology, system, geographical information, minerals and rocks, paintings and calligraphic works, music, literature and folklore. Besides, this book records not only simple histories but also various knowledge and experience from politics over the society to the stories about private areas thus the value of the book is highly estimated. The importance and value of 『Yimhapilgi』 have already been mentioned by many researchers. Therefore, this study focuses on seasonal customs and folk games that have never studied before among various area of folklore as a part of integrate study. The findings discussed in this study are as follows. Lee Yu-won is assumed to be very interested in seasonal customs and folk games. Thus he had left many recordings about seasonal customs and folk games in 『Yimhapilgi』. The seasonal customs and folk games are mainly recorded in ｢Munheonjijangpyun｣ and ｢Hwadongoksampyun｣ among the main chapters such as ｢Munheonjijangpyun｣, ｢Hwadongoksampyun｣, ｢Chunmyungilsa｣ and ｢Soonilpyun｣. However, the contents are relatively simple and only the seasonal customs and folk games quoted from the documents in Early Chosun era or Late Chosun Dynasty. Nevertheless, it still has an important meaning since it still conveys the maintenance and changes in seasonal customs and folk games at the Late Chosun Dynasty. In the cases of seasonal customs, the origin and changes of Cheongcham on New Year’s Day, crop spikes scattering on Daeborum Day, indigenousness of custom events on Hwazo Day, the uniqueness of cooking and eating Seolgo on Sangsa Day and Narye ceremony on Jesoek Day are remarkable. In the cases of folk games, the historical story of using kite in the war in China, walking play on Geumcheon bridge, the story about seungji exorcising evil spirit outside of Geunjeongmoon during Narye ceremony at dawn, the origin and first introduction of masks, the materials used in sandae play and donghwanhee and the legions where they were often played, the origin and rules of seungkwando and seonseondo from China, the inventor of seungkwando, the scores and meanings of ah, cheon, ji and lanhwa of seonhwapae, story of yubjahee and origin of jipae, the inventor, materials and manufacturing method of dice can be used for reference or has an important value as historical data. Therefore, the seasonal customs and folk games observed in『Yimhapilgi』convey important meanings from folklore view.

『林下筆記』(한문. 필사본 39권)는 李裕元(1814-1888)의 대표적인 저술 가운데 하나로, 정치･경제･사회･문화･역사･사상･제도･지리･금석 및 서화･음악･문학･민속학 등 각 분야를 博物學的･百科全書 식으로 기술한 책이다. 뿐만 아니라 이 책은 단순한 기록만이 아닌, 사회 전반에서부터 國事와 개인 신변잡사에 이르기까지 다방면에 관한 내용과 견문, 체험까지도 기록하고 있어 그 가치가 높이 평가된다. 『임하필기』의 중요성과 가치에 대해서는 이미 연구자들에 의해 언급된바 있다. 필자는 『임하필기』의 종합적 연구의 일환으로, 특히 민속 분야 그 중에서도 연구가 전무한 歲時風俗과 民俗놀이에 주목하였다. 본고에서 논의한 사항들을 종합하여 결론으로 삼으면 다음과 같다. 이유원은 세시풍속과 민속놀이에 대하여 관심이 많았던 것으로 보인다. 그러므로 그는 『임하필기』에 세시풍속과 민속놀이 관련 기록들을 많이 남기고 있다. 세시풍속과 민속놀이는 ｢文獻指掌編｣, ｢華東玉糝編｣, ｢春明逸史｣, ｢旬一編｣ 등에 주로 수록되어 있는데, 특히 ｢문헌지장편｣과 ｢화동옥삼편｣에 많이 실려 있다. 그런데 그 내용도 비교적 간단할 뿐만 아니라, 19세기에 행했던 세시풍속과 민속놀이보다는 주로 조선 전기나 후기 문헌들에 수록된 세시풍속과 민속놀이를 참고 인용하여 기록으로 남기고 있어 다소 아쉽다. 그럼에도 불구하고 󰡔임하필기󰡕를 통해 당시의 세시풍속과 민속놀이의 지속과 변모를 파악할 수 있는바, 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다. 세시풍속의 경우, 元朝 때 행했던 聽讖의 유래와 변모, 上元 시 행했던 곡식 이삭 늘어놓기 행사, 花朝 풍속 행사의 토착성, 上巳日에 雪糕를 만들어 먹는 풍속의 고유성, 除夕 때 행했던 儺禮儀式 등은 주목할 만하다. 민속놀이의 경우, 紙鳶을 전쟁 때 구제용으로 사용했다는 중국의 고사, 이유원의 금천교에서의 다리밟기, 儺禮 의식 행사 중 새벽 근정문 밖에서 승지가 역귀 쫓는 계청서부터 끝나는 부분, 假面의 기원과 시초, 山棚戱와 橦絙戱의 재질과 많이 행하는 지역, 陞官圖와 選仙圖의 중국(唐･宋)에서의 유래와 놀이 방식, 陞官圖를 만든 사람, 宣和牌의 牙･天･地･和牌의 점수와 의미, 葉子戱의 일화와 紙牌의 시초, 骰子를 만든 사람, 재질, 만드는 방법 및 일화 등은 참고가 되거나 자료적으로 가치가 있다. 그러므로『임하필기』에 나타난 세시풍속과 민속놀이는 민속학적으로 의미가 있다.
