This study aimed to analyze family relation programs of correctional facilities and provide ways of improvements. This study analyzed the data collected from a whole-number of 50 Correctional facilities on the programs including "Family Meeting Day", "Family Meeting House", "Family Camp", "Father Class", and "Mother Class", and "Leave System". Main findings were as followed: First, programs that aims on rebuilding family relations, although having high execution rates, showed very few participation or was cancelled altogether. Second, relating program management, there needed to be improvements in the scope, environment, quality of the programs, and the attitude of officers towards the correctional accidents. Last, it was suggested that to improve programs, there must be a development of various programs, widening the numbers of times, increasing participants, ensuring the accessibility of the programs physically, psychologically, and building infrastructure of the programs.

본 연구는 교정시설 가족관련 프로그램의 실태를 분석하고 개선방안을 제시하는데 목적을 두었다. 연구를 위해 전국 50개 교정기관을 전수 조사하였으며, “가족만남의 날”, “가족만남의 집”, “가족 캠프”, “아버지학교”, “어머니학교”, “귀휴”를 분석대상으로 하였다. 주요발견사항은 다음과 같다. 먼저, 수용자 가족관련 프로그램의 실시율 및 참여율은 전반적으로 낮아 프로그램이 제도적으로 존재하지만 활발히 운영되고 있지 못한 실정인 것으로 보였다. 둘째, 프로그램 운영 면에서 프로그램의 확대운영, 프로그램 환경의 변화, 프로그램의 질적 개선, 교정사고에 대한 직원책임의 완화를 프로그램 운영자들은 요구하였다. 셋째, 우선적으로 지원이 필요한 서비스로 수용자와 가족의 만남, 수용자에 대한 출소대비지원인 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 프로그램 개선방안으로 다양한 프로그램의 개발과 질적 제고, 프로그램의 확대 운영 및 대상자 선정의 확대, 물리적․심리적․시간적 접근용이성 확보, 프로그램 진행에서 발생한 교정사고로부터 프로그램 운영의 독립성 보장, 그리고 인프라 구축을 통한 프로그램 개발과 운영지원이 필요할 것으로 제안하였다.
