At a time when almost all fields of disciplines pursue consilience, fusion, and so forth, this study investigated integral philosopher Ken Wilber's integral theory and its application to integrated curriculum. In order to this, Wilber's philosophical backgrounds and his AQAL (All Quadrants, All Levels) approach was described in detail. After that, famous curricularist Eisner's five orientations in the field of curriculum theory were delineated as follows: development of cognitive processes, academic rationalism, personal relevance, social adaptation and social reconstruction, and curriculum as technology. On the basis of Wilber's AQAL approach, Eisner's five orientations as well as curricular scholars were shown in each quadrant in figures. In conclusion, in spite of weaknesses of Wilber's integral theory, there are much room for the implications of his theory on curriculum studies.

이 연구는 여러 학문 분야에서 이른바 통섭과 통합을 주장하고 있는 시점에서, 자아초월심리학 분야의 대가로 인정받고 있는 Ken Wilber의 통합이론, 즉 4상한 이론을 근거로 통합교육과정에 적용하여 그 시사점을 얻는 데 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 Wilber의 사상적 배경, 통합이론을 살펴보고, 교육과정학 분야에 새로운 관점을 제시한 Eisner의 5가지 교육과정 유형(orientations), 즉 인지발달 과정 중심 교육과정, 학문적 합리주의 교육과정, 인간중심 교육과정, 사회적응과 재건으로서의 교육과정, 공학으로서의 교육과정에 관해 논의하였다. 이러한 Eisner의 교육과정 유형과 이들 유형에 속하는 교육과정학자들을 Wilber의 4상한 이론에 적용하여 그림으로 나타냈다. 그 다음으로 환경이라는 실례로 초등학교 통합교육과정의 접근법을 표로 제시하였고, 통합교육과정의 방향을 그림으로 나타냈다. 결론으로 Wilber의 통합사상이 지나치게 서구 중심적･비전논리 중심적으로 동서양의 차이를 무시하고 단선적인 진화론과 획일적 탈형이상학적 관념론에 기반을 두고 있다고 비판을 받고 있지만, 앞으로 교육학 분야, 특히 교육과정 분야에서 계속적으로 연구해 볼 가치가 있다고 본다.
