Minimalism that was spread in the late 1990s aimed to explain the inner beauty of the body and pursue the essence of human body in fashion. Minimalism as a fashion trend coincided with the current trends of the times and was expressed through various styles. However, there has not been a study on minimalism in wedding dresses, so this study aimed to empirically analyze whether minimal style as a fashion trend was expressed or not, and if it was expressed, what forms will be shown in the future and what will change through, based on the editorial magazine 󰡔Mywedding󰡕 For objectivity, wedding dress editorial pictures showing the entire body that included explanations using relevant terms corresponding to minimalism were collected, and fashion images in minimalism wedding dresses were then analyzed. Changes of design construction factors were analyzed, and then the formative traits of minimalism wedding dresses were studied. To sum up, the formative traits of minimalism wedding dresses were found to be as follows. First, the size of the silhouette decreased. The number of X-line silhouettes reduced significantly and the H-line and sheath line, including a generalized mermaid line in 2000s, became the more general silhouette for wedding dresses. The form of the sleeve changed from puff sleeve to set-in sleeve, and then even that disappeared to give way to the sleeveless style. Second, the length of the silhouette shortened. In the 2000s, the bear top was the general style because of the length reduction of the top. Mini dresses were frequent because of the length reduction of bottoms. Third, materials were minimized. It is the material characteristics of special types were used. The body was shown through tight-fitting dresses with stretch material and see-through styles were formed with dresses made with transparent material. Fourth, trimmings were minimized. Details decreased through the simplicity of minimalism. Small ribbons, buttons, trimmings and corsages appeared as small decorations or decorations disappeared completely in the 1990s.

1990년대 후반에 확산된 미니멀리즘은 복식에서 인체의 본질을 추구하는 내적의미 면에서 신체의 아름다움을 표현하고자 하였다. 패션 트렌드로서의 미니멀리즘은 그 시대적 조류와 부합하여 다양한 스타일로 표현되어왔다. 그러나 웨딩드레스에서의 미니멀리즘에 대한 연구가 전무한 실정이므로 웨딩드레스에도 패션 트렌드로서의 미니멀스타일이 나타나는지 알아보고, 나타나면 어떤 스타일과 형태로 나타나는지, 또한 어떤 변화가 있는지「마이웨딩」잡지를 통해 실증적으로 분석해보고자 한다. 객관성을 위해 미니멀리즘적 요소에 해당하는 용어들로 설명되어진 전신‧전면 웨딩드레스 에디토리얼 사진을 수집하여 미니멀리즘 웨딩드레스에 나타난 디자인 구성요소의 변화를 분석하여 미니멀리즘 웨딩드레스의 조형적 특성을 연구하였다. 미니멀리즘 웨딩드레스의 조형적 특성을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실루엣 축소화이다. 실루엣 형태에서는 X-라인이 현저히 줄어들었고, H-라인의 등장과 2000년 이후 보편화된 머메이드라인을 포함하는 시드라인은 웨딩드레스 전반적 실루엣으로 자리하고 있다. 소매형태는 퍼프에서 셋인으로 나타나면서 그조차 점점 줄어 슬리브리스가 전반적 형태로 자리 잡았다. 둘째, 실루엣 길이의 축소화이다. 상의 길이의 축소로 2000년대엔 베어 탑이 일반화되었고, 하의 길이 축소의 미니드레스 출현이 잦아졌다. 셋째, 재질에 의한 최소화로 미니멀리즘의 특수 오브제의 물질성이다. 밀착과 투명한 재질에 의한 인체의 외곽선을 표현한 시스루 형태의 드레스로 나타났다. 넷째, 무장식･디테일의 축소화이다. 미니멀리즘의 단순성으로 장식을 절제하여 1990년대는 작은 리본, 단추, 트리밍, 코사지 등이 포인트로 나타나기도 하고 장식이 사라진 드레스가 빈번해졌다.
