This investigation examined the effects of self-disclosure on impression formation(perceived sociability, dependability, and capability) and gender difference about the effects. Respondents(male=80, female=80) who engaged in distribution industry read a self-disclosure script which composed of 2 disclosure level(high/low) by character’s gender(male/female). Then, male and female respondents were asked to rate sociability, dependability, and capability of the character of the script. Three way ANOVA were performed. The results showed high self-disclosure were followed by high dependability and capability. The effect of self-disclosure tended to be more strong if the character of script were male. In addition, these interaction effect of self-disclosure and character’s gender were more strong if respondents were also male. But, the effect of self-disclosure was rarely seen in female respondents. Finally, I suggested implications and limitations of this article and recommendations for future research.

본 연구는 대인관계에서 자기정보의 개방정도가 상대방에게 지각되는 개방자의 사교성, 신뢰성, 유능성에 영향을 미치는지와 그러한 영향에 남녀 성차가 존재하는지 검증하였다. 유통업에 종사하는 160명(남80, 여80)을 대상으로, 자기개방 수준(강, 약)과 개방자의 성별(남, 녀)이 조작된 스크립트를 제시하고 개방자의 사교성, 신뢰성, 유능성을 평가하도록 하였다(개방수준×개방자 성별×피개방자 성별). 변량분석 결과, 자기개방 수준의 주효과는 신뢰성, 유능성에서 나타나, 자기개방을 많이 할수록 신뢰성과 유능성이 높이 평가되었다. 이러한 자기개방의 긍정적 효과는 개방자가 남성일 때 더욱 강하게 나타났고, 개방자가 여자일 경우에는 거의 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이러한 남성 개방자에 대한 효과는 동성인 남성 피험자에게서 더욱 크게 나타났다. 따라서 남성 개방자의 자기개방의 긍정적 효과는 남성 피 개방자에게 가장 효과적이었으며, 여성 개방자의 경우에는 상대방의 성별에 관계없이 개방의 정도가 인상형성에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 끝으로 연구의 제한점과 이후 연구를 위한 제안 사항을 제시했다.
