The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a mentoring exprience for multicultural students on preservice elementary teachers’ multicultural attitude, multicultural efficacy and multicultural teaching competency. The sample for this study comprised 80 preservice elementary teachers. Data was gathered via a questionnaire and analyzed through t-tests and one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows. First, the mentoring experience was found effective for enhancing elementary preservice teachers’ multicultural attitude, their multicultural efficacy and their multicultural teaching competency. Second, the mentoring experience was found more effective for enhancing the multicultural teaching competency of preservice elementary teachers who montored students from foreign worker families. These results showed that teacher education curriculum for multicultural education should include field experiences that provides preservice teachers with opportunities for directly interacting with multicultural students

본 연구는 봉사-학습으로서 초등예비교사의 다문화가정 학생 멘토링 경험의 효과를 분석하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 초등예비교사 80명이 다문화가정 학생 멘토링에 참여하였다. 다문화가정 학생 멘토링 경험의 효과를 분석하기 위해서 멘토링 참여 전과 후에 초등예비교사의 다문화적 태도, 다문화적 효능감 및 다문화적 교수능력을 조사하였다. 자료 수집은 설문지를 통해 이루어졌으며, 자료 분석은 t 검정과 일원분산분석이 사용되었다. 분석 결과, 멘토링에 참여한 초등예비교사의 다문화적 태도, 다문화적 효능감 및 다문화적 교수능력이 모두 의미 있게 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 특히 다문화적 교수능력은 외국인근로자 가정 학생들을 지도했던 초등예비교사들이 국제결혼가정 학생들을 지도했던 초등예비교사들보다 더 많이 향상한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 다문화가정 학생들을 직접 경험할 수 있는 봉사-학습으로서 다문화가정 학생 멘토링이 초등예비교사들의 다문화적 능력과 자질을 향상시킬 수 있는 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있음을 보여주었다.
