The tea of china has been found and used since the Shin-Nong era for medication and eating. As time passed through the Wei, Chin and the South and North Dynasties it's use has been sublimated to form a cultural shape, and in the Tang Dynasty, the culture of tea has become complete. The stabilization of political and military, the propagation of the Zen sect, the implement of the Inperial examination, the trend of poetry, and the noble's trend of regarding the tea culture has made the culture of tea to form a completion. Tang Dynasty was the time when the chinese first started to bring up tea as a subject of a poet, and it was settled as a new genre of poetry. New ways of expressing it has been introduced; yi qi-shi, lian ju, pai lv, and guti-shi. Also, the contents of them were new and broad; they wrote about meditation, criticism of their society, seclusion, and friendship. These new challenges and changes contributed to amplify the cultural outcome of the Tea Poetry. Although there aren't as much quantity of the Tea poets compared to other numerous poetries from the same era, it contributed to shape the form of the ancient tea culture, and has become the base of the development of the tea culture on future generations.

중국의 차는 신농시대에 처음 발견되어 약용과 식용으로 쓰이다가 위진남북조를 거치며 차의 약리적인 효능이 점차 문화적 효능으로 승화되었고, 당대에 이르러 완전한 형태의 차문 화를 이루게 되었다. 당대에 차문화가 확립될 수 있었던 계기는 정치적, 군사적 안정과 선종의 전파, 과거제도의 시행, 詩歌의 번영 및 황실과 귀족의 차문화 중시 풍조 등의 여러 가지 전제 된 배경이 있었기 때문이다. 차문화사에 있어서 당대는 차를 소재로 한 시가 본격적으로 등장하여 시의 한 장르로서 정착하는 토대가 마련된 시기였다. 또한 차시의 표현형식도 전례없이 一七詩일칠시, 聯句연 구, 排律배율, 古體詩고체시 등 다양하게 나타나 쓰여졌고, 내용면에서도 지음과의 교유, 좌선 수행, 사회에 대한 비판, 은일생활 등 당대 차시의 문학적 성과를 한층 더 풍부하게 하였다. 비록 당대의 茶詩는 다른 詩歌 작품에 비하여 그 수가 많지는 않지만 중국 고대 차문화의 형성과 후대 차문화 발전에 중요한 토대를 제공하였다.
