Centered on the four-word idioms included in the Yonsei Dictionary of Korean, this paper examines the morphological features and the usage of 415 four-word Korean idioms among which 402 idioms are nouns and the rest are adverbs. Although 96.87% of the idioms studied are nouns, only 224 of them retain the original part of speech in Korean, and the rest of the idioms are transformed into verbs or adjectives by adding suffix “-하다”. In addition, those four-word idioms originally used as adverbs or adjectives are transformed into verbs by adding suffix “-하다”. Based on the analysis of Korean four-word idioms, this study aims at telling Chinese students who are leaning Korean how to learn and use the idioms correctly. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the teaching methods for Korean four-word idioms to explore more effective teaching patterns for Korean by making full use of the special features of Korean four-word idioms.

본 연구는 『연세한국어 사전』에 수록된 四字成語를 중심으로 현대 한국어에 있어서의 상 용 四字成語의 존재 양상과 사용실태에 대하여 고찰하였다. 그 결과 조사대상인 415개 四字成語 중에 명사인 성어는 402개가 있고 나머지 13개는 부사이다. 四字成語 총수의 96.87%를 차지하는 명사 四字成語는 비록 수가 많지만 한국어 문법에서는 그 중의 224개만이 명사의 원래 성질을 가지고 있으며 나머지는 파생어미인 ‘-하다’와 결합되어 동사나 형용사로서 쓰이 고 있다. 원래 품사가 부사인 四字成語도 일부분 파생어미‘-하다’와 결합되어 동사나 형용사 의 성질도 지니고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 이와 같은 연구 결과를 기초로 하여 한국어를 공부 하는 중국학생들이 효과적으로 四字成語의 사용 방법을 가르치는 데 있다. 이를 위해 四字成語의 교육패턴을 연구하고 분석하여 四字成語의 특성을 잘 활용하여 효과적인 한국어 교수 방안을 모색해 보았다.
