Abstract: This paper finds that the existing research in the contrastive study on Korean and Chinese spatial adjectives focused on the semantic contrast, but the contrast of lexical form helps more to understand characteristics of vocabularies and use them more correctly in the contrastive study on polysemous word frequently used like spatial adjectives which is showed in the example ‘deep·shallow’. The existing study contrasts the use of vocabularies focusing on the meaning of spatial adjectives, while this paper analyses the differences between ‘deep·shallow’ and ‘深·淺’ through the contrast of complex adjectives of spatial adjectives ‘deep/深’ and ‘shallow/淺’, grammatical restriction, co-occurrence restrictions and so on. The analysis shows that frequency of use of spatial adjectives ‘deep·shallow’’ is low and the meanings seem to expand internally while frequency of use of spatial adjectives ‘深·淺’, whose functions of meaning reduce, is higher than ‘deep·shallow’ and the meanings seem to expand externally. ‘deep·shallow’ has less grammatical and co-occurrence restrictions and comprehensive expressions but ‘深·淺’ has more grammatical and co-occurrence restrictions and detailed and accurate expressions. Based on the existing semantic contrast study of vocabularies, this paper broadens the sight of the study on the characteristics of vocabularies through the contrast of vocabulary forms.

본고는 한·중 공간형용사 대조 연구에서 기존의 연구들이 의미론적 측면의 대조에만 머물 러 있는 점에 비추어 공간형용사와 같은 고빈도 다의어 대조 연구에서는 어휘 형식에 대한 대조가 어휘의 특성에 대한 이해를 한층 더 깊이 할 수 있고 어휘의 정확한 사용에 일조할 수 있음을 ‘깊다·얕다/深·淺’를 실례로 논의하였다. 기존의 연구가 공간형용사의 의미에만 초 점을 맞추어 그 쓰임을 대조하였다면 본고는 공간형용사 ‘깊다·얕다’와 ‘深·淺’의 복합형용사, 문법적 제약, 공기 제약 등에 대한 대조를 통하여 ‘깊다·얕다’와 ‘深·淺’의 차이를 밝히려고 하 였다. 분석 결과 ‘깊다·얕다’의 복합형용사는 사용빈도가 낮고 ‘깊다·얕다’의 의미 및 그 쓰임 에 영향을 미치지 못하는 반면 ‘深·淺’의 복합형용사는 사용빈도가 높고 ‘深·淺’의 의미 및 그 쓰임에 적극적으로 영향을 미치고 있었다. ‘깊다·얕다’는 그 의미가 내적으로 확장되고 포괄적 인 표현으로 이어지고 있었고 ‘深·淺’는 내적으로 의미가 축소되는 대신 외적으로 정밀하고 구체적인 표현으로 이어지고 있었다. 본고는 기존의 어휘의 의미론적 측면에서의 대조에서 연 구의 시각을 넓혀 어휘 형식에 대한 대조도 함께 진행함으로써 어휘의 특성에 대한 고찰을 보다 심도 깊게 할 수 있었다.
