This article is to study the Korean media artists' view on urban development and urban spaces dealt in Korea·Australia Exchange Exhibition: Korea_Re-Imagining the City which is responding to Korea·Australia Exchange Exhibition: Australia_Digital Urban Portraits held on April 26 at Seoul Museum of Art. The Korean exhibition is held at Gold Coast City Gallery in Queensland, Australia. In particular, the writing examines how Korean media artists capture the moment of the reality in which modern spaces and modern buildings were transformed through urban development. Also, the writing speculates how artists' imagination getting out of difficulties and irrationality in the city make urban spaces newly recognised. In the thematic aspect, this Korean media art exhibition about the city in Australia provides opportunities to reconsider the development of urban spaces to both Gold Coast, which is now booming with new construction, and Seoul, which remodels modern buildings such as Seoul City Hall or Dongdaemoon Stadium and tries to make a balance among urban spaces. In the formal aspect, the exhibition presents from how the space where modern buildings and structures still exist was captured in video works and photos to how the present space can be given shape to by the interaction based on 3D stereoscopic images and data-visualisation medie art.

이 글은 올해 서울시립미술관에서 4월 26일에 개막하였던 《한국·호주 수교50주년 기념교류전: 호주_디지 털 도시초상》展에 대한 한국작가들의 응답으로 호주 골드코스트 시티갤러리에서 열린 《한국·호주 수교 50주년 기념교류전: 한국_도시 다시 상상하기》展의 도시 개발과 도시 공간에 대한 우리나라 미디어 아 트 작가들의 시선을 고찰해보는 연구이다. 특히 서울의 근대적인 공간들과 건물들이 도시개발을 통해 변 모되고 있는 현실에 주목하고 그 순간을 어떻게 작가들이 포착했는지에 주목하였다. 그리고 현재의 도시 공간에서 느끼는 부조리함이나 어려움에서 벗어나려는 작가들의 상상이 도시공간을 새롭게 인식하게 만드 는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 주제에 있어서는 호주에서 이루어지고 있는 이 한국 미디어아트 작가들의 도시 에 대한 전시는 개발이 한창 진행 중인 골드코스트시와 근대적 건물들을 리모델링하고 균형적인 발전을 꾀하고 있는 서울시 모두에게 도시공간 개발에 대해 생각해볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하였으며, 형식적으로 는 근현대의 역사 속에 존재하는 공간이 어떻게 영상과 사진에 담겨져 보일 수 있는지에서 부터 3D입체 영상을 바탕으로 한 상호작용 미디어 아트 작품을 통해 도시와 인간 사이의 상호작용의 중요성, 실시간 데이터를 바탕으로 하여 도시에서 일어나고 있는 일들을 시각화하는 데이터비주얼라이제이션 미디어 아트 작업을 통해 지금 현재의 공간이 어떻게 담아질 수 있는지를 보여주었다.
