The purpose of this study is to examine the problem of the sequences from video works which is relating this subject to the Henri Bergson’s concept of duree(duration), and Gilles Deleuz’s concept of Tout(the total). For examining duree without misunderstanding, it is required to conceive the process that the conscious becomes to be located in ‘the past in general’ through ‘leaping’ in the context of situations within sequences of video works. Most of all, it is necessary to scrutinize the moment with intensity when the structure of duree, which can also be called ‘mobile section’ or ‘layers’, is clearly noticed. The characteristic of sequences from video works by Susan Hiller, Bruce Nauman and myself has simultaneity in common, symbiosis among layers and the potentiality which is the movement happening within the spaces between layers. The fixated section as an oppositional concept of mobile section helps me clearly understand the problem of potentiality. It was possible to get closer to the concept of ‘the total’ and ‘duree’ through the dialectically supposed anti-concept: ‘non-pose.’ Finally, I become to recognize that each referent or coordinate can encounter each other anytime when the coincidence as an exterior cause happens to get involved in inner circle of structure of sequences, since they are usually inclined to be coincidental.

본 연구는 영상의 시퀀스를 앙리 베르그송의 지속의 개념, 또한 질 들뢰즈의 전체 개념과 관련하여 고찰 해 보고자 시작되었다. 지속을 왜곡 없이 파악하기 위해서는 의식이 도약을 통해 과거 일반으로 위치 지 어지는 과정을 시퀀스의 상황 안에서 이해해야 하는 것이 요구된다. 무엇보다 시퀀스가 제기하는 강력의 순간 즉, 동적 단면이나 층위라고 일컬어지는 지속의 구조가 선명하게 감지되는 순간을 고찰할 필요가 있 다. 본인과 수잔 힐러 그리고 부르스 나우먼의 비디오 작품에서 제시되는 시퀀스의 속성은 공통적으로 동 시성을 드러내며 층위들 간의 공존, 그 안에서의 운동이라 할 수 있는 잠재성을 담지하고 있다. 이러한 잠 재성의 문제에 확연히 접근하기 위해 고정적 단면으로서의 포즈를 대척점에 두어 고찰하였는데, 비-포즈 라는 변증법적인 반 개념을 가정함으로써 전체와 지속의 개념이 보다 선명해질 수 있었다. 시퀀스는 열려 있는 구조를 지향하므로 외재적 요인을 우연적으로 끌어들이는 방법으로 관계항들 간의 조우가 언제든 발 생할 수밖에 없다는 것 또한 알게 되었다.
