In editing, skipping of time/space and drift to a new spot are essential and critical processes. Throughout reconstruction of editing, films are condensed; further they produce diverse meanings of time and space. Typical techniques for reconstruction of time and space are Cross-Cutting and Parallel-Cutting. However, the two different techniques are being used the same meaning in film studies, which causes confusion by its fragmentary interpretation. It requires in-depth consideration to look into the film from the aesthetics of structure according to the diversity of modern cinematic films. Thus, this paper suggests an analytic expansion of film structure through subdividing of Cross-Cutting and Parallel-Cutting in terms of representation and interpretation. Since the fragmented and confused editing techniques make the film and editing itself down-valued, it would be meaningful to review the editing structures as well the meaning of film constitution.

편집에 있어서 시·공간의 생략과 새로운 위치로의 이동은 필수적일 뿐만 아니라 핵심적인 행위이다. 편집 의 재구성을 통하여 영화는 영화 안에서 응축되고 다양한 시간과 공간의 의미를 생산한다. 시간과 공간의 재구성으로 가장 대표적인 기법이 바로 ‘교차편집’과 ‘평행편집’이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 영화연구에서 일반 적으로 교차편집과 평행편집은 동일한 의미로 사용되고 있으며 이는 단편적 해석을 제공하여 기법의 혼란 을 야기한다. 이에 현대 영화영상의 다양성에 비추어 구조의 미학을 깊이 있게 바라보기 위한 고찰을 필 요로 한다고 판단된다. 그런 이유로 본고는 재현과 해석의 차원에서 교차편집과 평행편집의 세분화를 통 하여 영화구조의 해석적 확장을 제안하고자 한다. 형식적인 면에서 교대로 보이고 있다는 단편적 진술로 인하여 스스로 축소되고 있는 편집 구조를 고찰하는 것은 그 자체로도 의미가 있을 것이다.
