This study dealt with the culture of traditional printing at Youngcheon area in Kyungsang provinces. It was carried out as a part of the study which is related in the publishing trend and aspect of Kyungsang provinces. According to the result of this study, record distribution in Youngcheon area was already in the early epoch of the three Kingdoms. Also there were publication activity of the area included Youngcheon during the Koryo Dynasty. Publishing activity confirmed by existing old book was recognized in 15th century in this area. Later between 16th to 20th various book was published in diverse place. The right publishing place was at governmental office, Buddhist temple, Hyanggyo, Seowon or Sawoo(祠宇), Jaesil(齋室) or pavilion so forth. In every place above named kept up publishing work constantly. Meanwhile, in the instance of published book at Youngcheon, publishing method was preferred by woodblock to wooden movable type. The number of wooden movable type was only 3 kinds compare with woodblock that is 83 kinds. Additionally we could know the regional distinctiveness of Youngcheon to the point that the area has lots of old books and woodblocks at Buddhist temple or Seowon(書院), Hyanggyo(鄕校) or private house to the present. The fact informs us the point that this area set a high value at Confucian education and traditional etiquette.

이 연구는 경상도 지역의 출판문화 활동을 파악하는 단위 연구의 일환으로, 예로부터 문화와 예학, 교육의 고장으로 알려진 영천 지역의 인쇄문화에 대하여 다루었다. 이러한 연구 결과 영천 지역에서는 삼국시대 초기부터 이미 기록물의 유통이 이루어졌고, 고려시대에는 이들이 속한 지역 내에서 출판이 이루어졌음을 알 수 있었다. 이 지역에서의 직접적인 문헌 간행 사례는 15세기 초부터 확인된다. 이후 16세기에서 20세기에 이르는 동안 다양한 분야와 주제에 걸쳐 지속적인 출판 활동이 이루어졌다. 그리고 그 판각처는 영천관을 비롯하여, 지역 내의 사찰과 鄕校, 書院 및 祠宇, 齋室, 樓亭등 장소를 불문하고 활발한 간행 활동이 있었다. 한편, 지역 내에서 이루어진 출판 활동 시, 인쇄의 방식은 목판에 의한 간행 방식이 선호되어, 전체 간행 종수 86종 가운데 목활자 인쇄는 3종에 불과하였다. 또한 현재까지도 지역 내에서는 사찰과 서원, 향교 및 개인의 문중을 중심으로 다량의 서적과 목판이 소장되어 있어서, 교육과 예학을 중시하였던 지역의 특수성을 엿볼 수가 있었다.
