In this paper, we analyzed the changes in, and status of, service industries in Busan comparing with domestic region as well as other main countries. We also investigated how the shift to service industries had affected the employment in Busan. The main findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the increase of the production share of total service industries had a negative effect on increasing employment growth in Busan. This result differs with the Baumol's growth disease hypothesis. Rather, it supports the opinion of post-modernist that deindustrialization as intensified, the shares of professional work increases but relatively simple work decreases. Second, among four sub-sectional service industries, the increased share of 'distribution services' and 'social services' affected the rate of employment growth in Busan positively. Third, the negative impact of the shift to a service economy on women employment appeared to be greater than men employment on Busan.

본 연구에서는 전국, 세계 주요국, 제조업 등과 비교하면서 부산경제 산업구조의 서비스화 현황과 변화과정을 살펴보았다. 그리고 부산경제 산업구조의 서비스화가 지역고용에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 실증분석을 통해 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 주요 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다.
첫째, 부산경제 산업구조의 서비스화가 고용 증가율에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 보몰의 성장 질병가설의 설명과는 반대의 결과이고, 그보다는 서비스화가 진행되면 전문기술직이 증가하지만 단순노동은 상대적으로 감소한다고 설명하는 탈산업사회론자들의 견해를 지지하는 것이다. 둘째, 부산경제의 서비스화가 고용에 미치는 영향은 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 경우(유통서비스업과 사회서비스업)와 부정적인 영향을 미치는 경우(생산자서비스업과 개인서비스업)가 세부 산업별로 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 부산경제 산업구조의 서비스화가 고용 증가에 미치는 부정적인 영향은 여성의 경우에서 남성보다 더 크게 나타났다.
본 연구의 실증분석 결과는 통념적인 기대와는 매우 다른 것이다. 이러한 측면에서 본 연구의 결과는 기존의 부산경제 일자리 창출정책을 재검토할 필요가 있고, 또 향후 고용정책 수립에 세심한 주의가 필요하다는 것을 시사한다.
