The first purpose of this study is to recognize the modern dance choreography elements that the choreographer must consider in configuration of the individual choreography in order to creating the choreography that fits the topic the choreographer hopes to express through the discussion on the choreography methods of the Western Modern Dance. Additionally, the second purpose of this study is to derive the choreography elements needed in envisioning the procedure of choreography work by understanding the variety of modern dance choreography elements. Modern Dance, through the books and audio-visual data introducing famous choreographers and the choreography methods, analyzed the movement development and centered on the choreography methods presented by famous choreographers. If the variety of choreography methods of modern dance choreographers are presented, it would be the following. First, the modern dance choreographers have a variety in the choreography motives. Second, modern dance choreographers have secured the diversity in movement. Third, modern dance choreographers were using various elements that are outside of their bodies. Fourth, in creating the work, modern dance choreographers have the characteristics of the open structure. The choreography elements derived through the various analyzed choreography methods include time, space, music, stage equipment, movement, using other elements other than from the body, and the impact of ideology.

본 연구는 서양현대무용의 안무법 고찰을 통해 안무가 개인의 안무법 구성에 있어서 안무가가 고려해야만 하는 안무요소들을 도출함으로써 안무가가 표현하고자 하는 주제에 맞게 작품을 구성하는 과정에서 고려해야만 하는 안무요소에 대하여 인식하는데 1차적 목적을 두고 있다. 또한 현대무용 안무요소의 다양성을 파악하여 향후 안무 작업의 절차를 구상하는데 필요한 안무요소를 도출하는데 2차적 목적을 두고 진행하였다. 연구방법으로 문헌연구 방법과 안무가들의 저서와 영상물을 통하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과 안무법의 다양성에 대하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대무용 안무가들은 안무 모티브의 다양성을 가지고 있었다. 둘째, 현대무용 안무가들은 Movement 의 다양성을 확보하고 있다. 셋째, 현대무용 안무가들은 신체 외적 요소를 다양하게 사용하고 있다. 넷째, 현대무용 안무가들은 작품 구성에 있어서 열린 구조의 특징이 있다. 이상과 같이 분석된 다양한 안무법을 통해 도출되어진 안무요소에는 시간, 공간, 음악, 무대장치, 신체외적요소의 사용, Movement, 사상의 영향이 있다.
