As the aging society emerges, people are more interested in the retirement by age and life after retirement. This is because retirement means significant change by itself without meaning automatic transition from regular job to unemployed person any longer. Especially, the plan to be effectively and soundly applied to the life after retirement is recognized indispensable in modern society.
The construction of effective retirement management program and re-employment system will contribute to the minimization of negative result caused by retirement, since it provides the retired persons with information necessary to adapt and absorb society.
Lifelong education refers to all types of systematic education activities including schooling supplementation education, adult’s reading basic character education, job skill improving education, liberal arts education, culture and arts education, citizens’ participation education, etc except the regular education in the school.
As the realistic request of society, especially the increasing opportunity of education, consolidated utilization of learning resources in all society and the systematic connection of education result and employment are further required in the middle of the 20th century, the necessity of lifelong education is further stressed.
In this study, retirement management and lifelong education are theoretically investigated to introduce lifelong education program for management of police retirement and the present situation of retirement of police officer, course of designing the future by Police Training Institute and the program of Discharged Soldier Support Center. As the method to introduce lifelong education program for management of police retirement based on them, the following matters are presented first, expanding the recognition of lifelong education, second, development of diverse lifelong education programs, third, establishing the roles of relevant institution and fourth, expanding the consigned education.

고령화 사회가 다가옴에 따라 정년과 퇴직이후의 삶에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 이는 퇴직이라는 것이 그것 자체로써 커다란 변화를 의미하며, 더 이상 자동적인 정규직에서 실업자로의 변화를 의미하는 것은 아니기 때문이다. 특히 현대 사회에서 퇴직 이후의 삶에 효과적이고, 건강하게 적응하기 위한 계획은 필수적으로 인식된다.
효과적인 퇴직관리프로그램과 재취업시스템의 구축은 퇴직자에게 사회적응과 흡수에 필요한 정보를 제공하여 퇴직으로 인해 발생하는 부정적 결과를 최소화하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
평생교육이란 학교의 정규교육과정을 제외한 학력보완교육, 성인 기초·문자해득교육, 직업능력 향상교육, 인문교양교육, 문화예술교육, 시민참여교육 등을 포함하는 모든 형태의 조직적인 교육활동을 말한다.
20세기 중엽에 이르러 사회의 현실적 요청, 특히 교육기회의 증대, 사회 전체의 학습자원의 통합적 활용, 그리고 교육결과와 고용의 체계적 연계 등의 요구가 증대됨에 따라 평생교육의 필요성이 강조되었다.
본 연구에서는 경찰퇴직관리에 평생교육 프로그램 도입을 위해 퇴직관리와 평생교육에 대한 이론적 검토를 하고 경찰공무원의 퇴직현황, 경찰교육원의 미래설계과정, 평생교육 프로그램이 활성화 되어 있는 제대군인지원센터의 프로그램 현황에 대해서 살펴보았다. 이를 바탕으로 경찰퇴직관리에 평생교육 프로그램 도입방안으로 첫째, 평생교육에 대한 인식의 확대, 둘째, 다양한 평생교육 프로그램의 개발, 셋째, 관련 기관의 역할 정립, 넷째, 위탁교육의 확대 등을 제시하였다.
