Smart Homes imply that the house is intelligent by themselves among all entities and components, and human is the center of the intelligent house. Global increase of the elderly population challenges the new technologies and the emerging market of the senior friendly products and industries. Also, the smart home is an immediate alternative for the senior healthcare services. This research surveys the concepts of the smart homes, and introduces an example of a case of Gwangju Senior Products Center. Especially, five key components for the smart home have been explained in details regarding the example, and further investigates on the approaches how to improve the current Gwangju smart home, and further development direction based on the lessons.

스마트 홈(smart home)이란 가정 내에서 사물 및 집 자체가 지능화되고 인간을 중심으로 하는 지능형 홈 환경을 의미한다. 범세계적인 고령인구의 증가현상은 누구에게나 하나의 도전이자 기회가 될 수 있는데, 스마트 홈은 어린 세대나 젊은 세대는 물론 노년층을 배려해주는 노년기의 Healthcare 방법에 대한 대안으로 각광을 받고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 스마트 홈에 대한 개념을 다시 살펴보면서 조만간 광주광역시가 구축하고자 하는 광주고령친화체험관 내에 설치될 스마트 홈을 소개하고자 한다. 아울러 스마트 홈에 관련된 국내외 산업 현황 및 구축 사례를 분석을 통하여 스마트 홈 구축에 필요한 다섯 가지 구성 요소를 적용한 미래의 스마트 홈 발전방안(개선방향)을 도출해내고자 한다.
