This research is to find out about the development patterns in children’s verbal and body languages. The experiment was done among the group of 39 of 4-year-old and 5-year-old children that are attending to an annex kindergarten attached to a university in S city in Chonnam province. The researcher handed out to the group 12 cards that have noun and verb on each and ask them to describe the words verbally and non-verbally. The researcher analyzed the performance of the group based on 4 Likert rating scale, in the scale of 1 to 4. 1 was given to those that were not understood at all and 4 was given to those that were accurate and described in detail. The result was as shown below; First, verbal and body languages have an significant differences by age. Second, boys were superior to girls in body language. Third, children’s express ability in verbal and body languages correlate very closely.

본 연구는 유아의 구어와 몸짓언어와의 발달패턴을 알아보기 위한 연구로서, 현재 전남 S시 대학부설유치원에 재원중인 만 4세와 만 5세에 해당하는 39명의 유아를 대상으로 실험을 실시하였다. 검사자는 대상유아에게 총 12개의 명사와 동사 카드를 보고 구어로 단어를 설명하는 과제와, 마찬가지로 12개의 명사와 동사 카드를 보고 구어를 사용하지 않고 몸짓만으로 검사자에게 단어를 설명하는 과제를 주었다. 검사자는 유아의 수행능력을 4점 리커트 평정척도를 사용하여 분석하였으며, 의미전달이 전혀 되지 않는 경우는 1점 그리고 의미전달이 매우 정확하고 구체적인 경우는 4점으로 평가하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 구어와 몸짓언어는 연령에 따라 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 몸짓언어에서는 남아가 여아보다 더 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 구어와 몸짓언어를 통한 표현능력 간에는 높은 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
