The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of 8 Weeks of grip strength training on 1 Wood and 5 Iron shot’s ball speed and angle at take off tee, and driving distance in collegiate students. Twenty elite golfer who were randomly assigned two groups: exercise group (N=10, 22.90±1.66 yrs, 176.20±3.32 cm, 74.00±3.88 kg, 23.83±1.07 kgㆍm-2) and non-exercise group (N=10, 21.90±1.19 yrs, 174.50± 2.41 cm, 74.71±4.50 kg, 24.55±1.65 kgㆍm-2). A 8-weeks grip strength training program consisted of three phases; warm-up, main exercise, and cool-down, was applied to the exercise group. Before and After the program, 1 Wood and 5 Iron shot’s ball speed and angble at take off tee and driving distance was measured and analyzed by One-way ANOVA with repeated measure. As a result, 8 weeks grip strength training has significant differences between(B) and within(W) groups and B×W on ball speed and angle in 1 Wood shot(p<.05) and ball speed and driving distance in 5 Iron shot(p<.05) in this study. Consequently, 8 weeks of grip strength training were influenced in 1 Wood and 5 Iron shot to elite golfers. Therefore, not only conventional training, core training and so on, but also grip strength training are very important to improve golfer’s performance. Further study need to more concentration grip strength to golf swing.
