초록

영어

In 19th century classic novels, for the object of many discourses which are seen to be clearly digressions, investigated was how the character of digres- sion within classic novels is dividing into the aspect of discernment of digression and episode, the aspect of sign of digression, the aspect of attitude of authors on breakaway from and return to main story.
Considering that many episodes are become entangled with main story and compose works in novels particularly in full-length novels, to distinguish episodes which have indirect connection with main subject of the works from digression which do not is said to be more useful to understand spectrum of many stories which have alliance with main story directly and indirectly.
Generally, digressions leave initiating pointer and terminating pointer but in classic novels the story is cut off without such pointers or in some moment the story returns or topic is completely changed hence the previous story is known to be digression.
In this thesis this is called 'indirect expost facto recognition'. In classic novel the author shows the aspect to break away from main story by being immersed in a particular story or description, and this time the author suddenly cuts off the story being told or shows the appearance to return shamelessly as if nothing had happened.
In addition, they say that author does not 'encourage' himself (or herself) to digress to other story but shows the attitude not to obstinately 'suppress' this.
That is why when authors themselves digress to other story, they bother for the story not to completely break away from the track this way and that way.
