This study compared the newspaper content and composition of Busan Ilbo with that of Nishinippon Shimbun's. It was found that the paper composition of Nishinippon Shimbun exhibited more regional characteristics than that of Busan Ilbo's. Similar results were shown as for the article frequency and content analysis. Nishinippon Shimbun endeavored to deliver the diversity of generations and social classes. Busan Ilbo included in-depth articles more than Nishinippon Shimbun. Specifically, Busan Ilbo was thought to reflect the journalism that raises local issues and therefore leads regional development rather than merely delivering straight news. In terms of visual designs, Busan Ilbo employed tables, photos, and illustrations significantly more than Nishinippon Shimbun. In other words, Busan Ilbo adapted to the conversion of reading newspaper to visual one better than Nishinippon Shimbun.

이 연구는 부산일보와 서일본신문을 대상으로 지면구성에 대한 비교분석을 시도하였다. 연구결과 두 신문의 지면구성에서 서일본신문은 부산일보보다 지면에 지역성을 더 많이 반영하고 있었다. 기사빈도에서의 차이뿐만 아니라 기사 내용의 질적 분석에서도 비슷한 결과가 드러났다. 서일본신문은 세대별, 계층별로 지역민들의 다양한 목소리를 지면에 담고자 애써다. 반면 부산일보는 서일본신문보다 기획기사의 양을 더 많이 가지고 있었다. 객관적 사실을 그대로 전달하는 언론의 역할보다 지역의 이슈를 만들고 지역발전을 선도하는 언론으로서의 역할을 지면에 반영하려고 노력하였다. 신문의 비주얼과 관련된 분석에서 부산일보는 서일본신문에 비해 표나, 사진, 일러스트 등을 훨씬 많이 사용하고 있음이 발견되었다. ‘보는 신문’의 전환에 있어서는 부산일보의 대응이 더 빠른 것으로 보인다.
