In Japan, the study of restaurants and shops as elements of urban tourism has not attracted much attention from academics until recently, while it is regarded as a main resource of urban tourism spots. Korean town in Shin-Ōkubo used to be a place for those who work in Kabukicho area, which has many night-life amusement facilities. However, since the emergent phenomena of Korean Wave in Japan from 2003, Shin-Ōkubo area has become a hot place due to the increasing visiting number of Japanese Korean sub-culture fans. Since then, mass media has started to shed light on Shin-Ōkubo Korean town as a brand new urban tourism spot. This study aims to determine the following question: `Is Korean town in Shin-Ōkubo area an urban tourism spot?` through analyzing Shin-Ōkubo Korean town by urban tourism elements model. Thorough literature review and field work were conducted as study method for this study. Consequently, the result of this study suggests that Korean town in Shin-Ōkubo area is an urban tourism spot which has restaurants and shops which can be regarded as urban tourism elements.

新大久保コリアンタウンは東京部の新宿区に位置している。2000年代以前におけ る新大久保は観光地ではなく、女性誌などで新大久保のエスニックレストランが紹 介される程度であった。しかし、2003年に放送された韓国ドラマ『冬のソナタ』か ら始まった「韓流ブーム」、そして『冬のソナタ』の主人公であるペ・ヨンジュン の人気に火がついた「ヨン様ブーム」以降、この街がメディアで観光地として紹介 されるようになり、韓国の最新芸能情報を求めて彼のファンが新大久保に集まった。 ドラマのブームが終わっても、新大久保は「今の韓国」が味わえる街として日本で 放送され、韓流ファンだけではなく、韓国の料理を食べに訪ねた人や、韓国の化粧 品や小物を買う事を楽しみたい人々が集まるようになった。 しかし、新大久保が都市観光地であるかに関しては、まだ議論が行われている。 そこで本研究は、都市観光構成要素モデルに基づき、現地調査と地図分析を通じて 時間の経過による新大久保の地域構成要素の変化を分析した。 その結果、新大久保は都市観光資源を有している都市観光地であることが明らか になった。
