The purpose of this study was to suggest directions of career education in home economics area of practical arts. Literatures were reviewed. The major findings in this study were as follows: 1) Practical arts education is a core subject that has responsibility for career education in elementary school. Despite of numbers investigations in this area, there is a nothing study on the subarea of practical arts education especially in home economics area; 2) The subject of home economics area in practical arts education is a 'work' related with various kind of occupations in society, and it is a educational area which has a educational means and values to enhance a self-understanding and understanding of occupations through the experience of the work; 3) The directions of career eduction in the home economics area of practical arts education through the review literatures on elementary career education and home economics area in practical arts education are suggested as 6 directions. The 6 directions were sa follows: (1) Integrated approach for career education between elementary subjects centered on practical arts education. (2) Career educational application to the teaching plan of each unit in practical arts education. (3) Inclusion of career education in textbook on pratical arts education. (4) Buildup the linking to career education in other activities. (5) application of Interesting and various kind of activities centered teaching and learning (6) development of materials for the career education in home economics area of practical arts education.

본 연구에서는 초등실과 가정교육영역에서의 진로교육의 방안을 마련해 봄으로써 초등학교 실과 가정과교육영역에서의 진로교육의 기초자료를 제공하는데 연구의 목적을 두고 초등진로교육과 초등실과 가정교육영역에서의 진로교육에 관련된 문헌과 연구논문 등을 고찰하여 초등실과 가정교육영역에서의 교육적 방안을 제시하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 실과교과는 초등학교에서 진로교육을 담당하는 핵심교과로서, 다수의 선행연구가 개진되어왔으나, 연구의 대상을 살펴본 결과 가정교육, 기술교육, 농업교육, 환경교육 등의 실과교과 내 영역별 진로교육에 대한 연구는 미진한 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 초등실과 가정과 영역은 사회의 다양한 직업과 관련된 ‘일’을 대상으로 하며, 일의 경험을 통해 자기이해와 직업세계에 대한 이해 등 진로와 관련된 내용을 효과적 높일 수 있는 교육적 의미와 가치가 있는 교육영역이라고 할 수 있어 앞으로 많은 연구의 수행이 요구되는 것으로 파악되었다. 세 번째로는 초등학교에서의 진로교육과 초등실과 가정과 영역에서의 진로교육에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통하여 제시된
초등실과 가정과영역에서의 진로교육 방안은 첫째. 진로교육내용의 교과 간 통합적 접근, 둘째, 단원별 지도안에 진로내용의 적용, 셋째, 교과서에 진로교육내용 요소 반영, 넷째, 진로교육의 연계 운영 강화, 다섯째, 흥미 있고 다양한 활동중심의 교수학습의 적용, 여섯째, 다양한 진로교육 자료의 개발 및 공유 활성화로 제안되었다.
