The Relationships between Emotions for Helping from Peer and Prosocial Behavior according to Adolescent's Peer Status

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between emotions for helping from peer and prosocial behavior according to adolescent's peer status. Participants were 332 second grade adolescents from middle schools in Busan, South Korea. The subjectss were identified as popular, average, neglected, and rejected group by sociometric status test. For data analysis, Cronbach 𝞪, frequency, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients were used. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1. Adolescent's prosocial behavior was different by peer status. Popular adolescents expressed more prosocial behavior than rejected adolescents. 2. Warmth, happiness and annoyance expressed significant difference statistically among emotions for helping from peer according to adolescent's peer status. But there was no significant difference in gratitude, joy, indebtedness, shame, and uncomfortable. 3. There was a significant positive correlation between gratitude, joy and warmth and prosocial behavior in the popular groups. average groups had a positive correlation between gratitude, joy, and happiness and prosocial behavior. but there was negative correlation between annoyance and prosocial behavior. In addition, neglected groups had a positive correlation between gratitude, joy, warmth and happiness and prosocial behavior. Lastly, rejected groups had a positive correlation between gratitude, joy, happyness, and warmth and prosocial behavior. Limitations and implicationas are disscused.
