The educative and philosophical value of the admiration seen in the MunMyoSeokJeon (Ceremonies at Confucian Shrines) reveals in the movements of the MunMyoIlMu dance. As we are aware of the ultimate goal of education, which is to create a desirable human being, IlMu shows orderly movements like a microcosm within a Confucian philosophy of the proprieties and music (YeAk). The dance has a heart that is invisible because it is hidden in the dance movements. It is Ilmu that expresses the heart in the manner of give-and-take, and the manner of give-and-take is the philosophical background of the IlMu dance moves. JinToi, or the advance and retreat moves in the dance reflects the heart of manner of give-and-take well, and so this study focuses on what JinToi means to argue the educative and philosophical value of the dance moves. The study also discusses JinToi from the educative and philosophical aspect by studying old literatures and analyzing the pedigree of IlMu. JinToi stems from dancing with four dance signs set up at the four directions of north, south, east and west. In particular, old literature resources indicate EupYang is key moves in the IlMu dance to present honor to masters. Eup means admiration and Yang modesty and humbleness. Even the same dance moves can be Eup or Yang if they are done in the advanced or retreated position. Therefore JinToi shows meanings when dancing IlMu. The dance moves of IlMu originated from the ancient court manners to get to where it is today. Each movement of IlMu has a specific meaning, and the moves are the combination of the ordinary body moves of courtesy and rhythmical movements of music. So The MunMyoIlMu is based on the philosophy of proprieties and music, and expresses humanity. It is the esthetics of relationship that embraces in and out, which is exactly the philosophy of proprieties and music in the MunMyoIlMu. Therefore MunMyoIlMu is a celebration for life reveling the past in the present space, or an admirative music dance that includes an ideology and formality through life in time and daily lives in space. The MunMyoIlMu sublimates human temperament into an esthetic activity based on the balance of modesty and harmony through the ritual ceremony. Therefore, as an educative philosophy for a desirable human being who can create a harmony between man and man, and man and nature in today’s unpredictable society, the MunMyoIlMu will be an ideal way to hope to complete a beautiful human being by practicing proprieties and music.

문묘 석전이 갖고 있는 공경의 교육철학적 가치는 문묘일무의 춤사위로 드러난다. 교육의 궁극적 목적인 ‘바람직한 인간’을 주지하듯 일무는 그 자체가 유가의 예악론 안에서 마치 하나의 소우주처럼 질서정연하게 움직여나간다. 거기에는 밖에 드러나는 동작 속에 가려져서 잘 보이지 않는 마음이 있는데, 그 마음을 수수지례(授受之禮)로 표현한 것이 바로 일무이며 수수지례가 곧 일무 춤사위의 철학적 배경이다. 본고에서는 이 수수지례의 마음을 잘 반영하고 있는 진퇴(進退)의 춤사위가 갖고 있는 구체적인 의미를 중심으로 그 교육철학적 가치를 논하고자 고문헌에 대한 연구와 일무보(佾舞譜)의 분석을 통해서 나아가고 물러가는 진퇴를 교육철학적인 측면에서 논의 하였다. 진퇴는 일무(佾舞)의 위치에 춤의 기본방위인 동서남북의 사방(四方)에 네 개의 무표(舞表)를 세우고 춤추었던 것에서 비롯되었다. 특히 진퇴는 스승에 대한 예를 상징적으로 표현하기 위한 핵심동작으로 읍양(揖讓), 즉 공경과 사양과 겸양의 덕목을 나타내기 위해 반드시 행해야 하는 일무의 법도임을 고문헌 사료를 통해 알 수 있었다. 이는 곧 나아가서 행하는 읍(揖)의 춤사위는 공경을 의미하고, 물러가서 행하는 양(讓)의 춤사위는 사양과 겸양을 의미하는 것이다. 같은 춤사위라 하더라도 나아가서 행하면 읍의 의미가 되고, 물러가서 행하게 되면 양의 의미가 된다. 때문에 일무를 출 때는 반드시 진퇴로써 의미를 나타내게 됨을 알 수 있다. 문묘일무의 춤동작은 고대 궁중예법(宮中禮法)에서 유래되어 일관 된 모습으로 이어져 오늘에 이른다. 문묘일무의 춤사위 하나하나는 특별한 의미를 지니고 있는 것으로써 예의 일상적 몸짓에 악의 율동(리듬감)을 더하여 만들어 졌다. 바로 이처럼 문묘일무는 예악의 문화로 인간다움을 표현미학으로 담고 있다. 겉과 속을 서로 어우르는 관계의 미학이 바로 문묘일무의 예악문화이다. 따라서 문묘일무는 제례가 갖는 과거 시간을 현재 공간에서 재현하는 생명 축제로, 즉 시간이 갖는 생명성과 공간이 갖는 생활성을 통해 이념과 형식을 담는 공경의 악무라 할 수 있다. 문묘 제례를 통해 인간의 성정을 절제와 조화를 통한 미적 활동으로 승화시킨 문묘일무는 이제 미래 예측이 어려운 현대사회에 인간과 인간의 조화, 인간과 자연의 조화를 풀어가는 바람직한 인간을 위한 교육철학으로 현대인들에게 예악의 실천을 통한 아름다운 인간의 완성을 꿈꾸는 이상적 대안이 될 것이다.
