This paper aims to prove the phonological system's basis of the ≪Yun-hui(韻會)≫(full name ≪Gu-jin-yun-hui-ju-yao(古今韻會擧要)≫). ≪Yun-hui≫ is a rhyme book written in Yuan dynasty of the thirteen century. It reflects the actual tongue of those days. This book designed “36 zi-mu(36字母)”and “zi-mu-yun(字母韻)” system is different from the traditional one. The system may reflect the commonly used language in the southern part of China during that time. The conclusion of this paper has been made on the basis of the following: First, the contemporary northern and southern dialect may equally inherit from the phonological system of ≪Yun-hui≫. Secondly, the phonological system of ≪Yun-hui≫ is similar to the contemporary Hang-zhou(杭州) dialect. Thirdly, the birthplace and career of the author. Fourthly, the phonological systemic difference of ≪Yun-hui≫ and ≪Meng-gu-zi-yun(蒙古字韻)≫. Finally, the population structure of Nan-Song Dynasty. Therefore, We can say ≪Yun-hui≫ may represent the Nan-fang-tong-yu(南方通語) of the thirteen century commonly used in Lin-an(臨安).
