This article attempted to contemplate on the relationship between his expository preaching and theology. Lloyd―Jones believed that theological understanding and application in expository preaching was of utmost importance to the pastors and church.
And restoring this to a central and the most importance place in preaching is required.
Expository preaching is faithful to the biblical text, and concise, systematical, and
applicable to the present reality.
Lloyd―Jones wrestled with reactions to modern day sermons, advocated for biblical, historical, grammatical, theological justification of putting sermons first before anything else, and debated many counter opinions. Indeed he expressed deep interest in answering and debating questions and opinions pertaining to expository preaching.
Lloyd―Jones considered expository preaching as a proven answer to problems that modern churches face. So he emphasized the need for the preachers to embrace this conviction and carry it out on the pulpit. Otherwise, Lloyd―Jones believed that there would not be a biblical outcome.
It was a pleasant reminder and challenges to understand the method of his theological preaching and sermon. While he believed that expository preaching was the main duty of pastors for the church, he did not try to mention other aspects of ministry. But it must be understood that Lloyd―Jones strongly emphasized that the sermon was central to everything else and controlled outcome of all other aspects of ministry.
So we can understand Lloyd―Jones’view that theological expository preaching plays an integral role in determining the characteristics of other aspects of ministry. He firmly exhorted the importance of theological expository preaching that is based on the logic on fire can effectively convey the message of man’s salvation and revival.
