This article is for investigating the basic understanding the change of influence, which is one of the major components to shape leadership. The influence can be classified into two categories; the influence to use the direct communication method, and the influence to use the indirect communication method. The former is for the leadership that leads the physically―bounded communities with the direct communication skill like the direct speech, etc. However, the latter is for the leadership that leads the various communities with the indirect communication skills like media as the telecommunication technologies. The indirect influence is likely to become more popular, in this ages, as the power to combine the diverse organizations and to grow each of them. The multi―site church is one of the remarkable examples of the indirect influences nowadays, which is able to transform the traditional concepts of the space, and to willingly use the modern telecommunication technologies, and to locate the direct sub―leadership (contextualized at that site culture) inside each sites of the churches. This kind of church is considered as the response to the postmodern situation and the other chuch issues, especially for the modern Korean churches. Since the multi―site churches are expected to be one of the major models of the future indirect influence―oriented communities, the further reasearch and application of them are recommended.

본고는 리더십의 주요 요소인 영향력을 중심으로 이에 따른 리더십의 변화를 살펴본 것이다. 영향력은 리더십의 필수적인 기반으로서 직접적인 전달 방식과 간접적인 전달방식을 갖는다고 보고 리더십을 직접적 리더십과 간접적 리더십으로 구분하여 고찰하였다. 전자는 물리적인 한계를 갖는 현장의 공동체를 위한 것으로서 직접적 소통을 주로 사용하고 후자는 공간의 개념을 다르게 하는 간접적 소통을 주로 사용하는 것이다.
이 간접적 영향력 혹은 간접적 리더십은 최근의 기술적 환경과 문화적 환경의 변화에 따라 증대되고 있는데 세계적으로 그리고 한국적으로 이에 대한 관심과 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 그리고 이 간접적 영향력의 교회적 적용이 최근에 대두되고 있는 멀티사이트 교회(Multi―site church)라고 할 수 있다. 이 추세는 하나의 교회가 여러 사이트들로 공간적 분산을 시도한 것인데 리더십의 주요 요소인 소통을 위해서는 간접적 영향력의 소통 방식, 즉 현대의 미디어 기술을 사용한다는 것이다. 그러나 그 사이트 내부에서는 지역적으로 상황화되어진 직접적 서브 리더십을 배치하고 있다. 이러한 교회는 포스트모던적 환경에서의 문화적 응답이자 교회 공간 문제의 대안적 응답이라고 할 수 있으며 특히 한국 교회 상황에서 일부 문제에 대한 대안의 시도라고 볼 수도 있을 것이다. 멀티사이트 교회는 미래의 간접적 영향력 중심의 공동체의 하나의 예로서 그 장점과 단점을 잘 고찰하여 발전시켜 나가야 할 것이다.
