최근 소방산업의 진흥에 관한 법률의 제정은 소방을 국민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는 소극적인 안전복지적 관점에서 국가경제의 지속적 성장을 뒷받침하는 적극적인 산업경제적 관점으로 변화하는 계기가 되었다. 우선, 산업적인 측면에서의 소방산업을 파악하기 위하여 소방산업의 개념과 분류에 대하여 고찰하고 국내외 산업환경변화와 소방산업과의 관계 및 주요 선진국의 소방산업정책의 특징과 시사점을 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 국내 소방산업의 현황과 특징을 살펴본 후 열악한 국내 소방산업 육성정책으로 소방산업의 연구기능 강화, 소방검정제도의 선진화, 소방제품 수출지원책 확대, 소방제품의 국제표준화 추진, 소방전문인력 양성 등을 제시하였다.
