The purpose of this study was to seek the breathing method which is comfortable to swimming beginners. To achieve it, the breathing guidance types of swimming coach in the sports center were analyzed with questionnaires and the documents related to swimming breathing were considered. Based on them, this researcher suggested comfortable method of breathing suitable for swimming beginners by arranging systematically my experiences of swimming and results of self-reflection for a long time. For the factors that can make an effect on breathing in swimming activities, breathing quantity, speed, timing and so on can be suggested greatly. Especially, it is the most important to select the comfortable breathing quantity for breathing in and out. Speed is slower than the speed of flowing water when face is rising to the water surface for breathing, so the swimmer can breath in directly without any preliminary action, ‘pa,’ shaking out the water flowed around the lips. And, during the breathing, it is good to maintain the angle that chin is higher than forehead. Timing is an important factor influencing the success of breathing and it is important to practice the action slowly and exactly again and again until the feeling of water can be found. For the method of practicing the above comfortable breathing, it is good to practice in shallow water firstly and then, practice in deep water gradually while enduring the fear of water and possessing familiarity of it. and it is good to practice from basic action to applied action. The method of practicing flank breathing at the pool side can give swimming beginners a sense of security more than the existing action of standing and flank breathing. and it is effective that participants practice and understand the flank breathing as the attitude same as the actual swimming.
