The era of 70s-80s was the experimental time to attempt to draw new social housing type. This study reviews a progress that Le Corbusier's methodology and philosophy were supplemented and retranslated in various ways at that time and they have been contemporarily evolving. That progress is confirmed in several theories such as Henri Ciriani's ‘Pièce Urbaine’, Christian de Portzamparc's ‘the open block’ concept that has presented the possibility of the internal landscape that was destructed by grand ensemble and the public space, and Jean Nouvel and others' HLM plan that succeeded the abundant spatial value granted to unit housing and public space. Of course, all of these schemes presupposes the economical effectiveness and rationality of construction, which are handled as requisites in HLM. In addition, these theories are significantly meaningful in that they are a concept induced by sublimating them into one of architectural composition methods. Moreover, as Corbusier's influence was inferred in HLM of architects with various propensities, it was found out that the performance of Le Corbusier who played a major role in innovating social housing act as a potential foundation through all fields till modern times. Thus, when we evaluate the influence that he left, it is necessary to make the judgement finding our meaning in his philosophy that controlled the way of life itself by coping with social changes beyond an architectural inheritance.

70-80년대는 새로운 사회주거 유형도출을 위한 실험의 시기였고 이 연구에서는 그 시기에 르 꼬르뷔제의 방법론과 철학이 다양한 방식으로 보완 또는 재해석되고 현대적으로 진보되는 양상을 살펴본다. 대표적으로, 시리아니의 Pièce urbaine과 그랑 앙상블로 파괴된 내부가로와 공적공간의 가능성을 제시한 포잠박 등의 열린 블록 개념, 그리고 단위주거와 공용공간에 부여한 풍부한 공간적 가치를 계승한 장 누벨 등의 HLM계획에서 확인할 수 있다. 물론, 이 모든 방식은 HLM으로서의 필수요건인 건설 경제성과 합리성을 기본전제로 하며, 더 나아가 이를 건축구성방법의 일부로 승화시키면서 도출한 개념이라는 데에 중요한 의미가 있다. 또한, 다양한 성향의 건축가들의 HLM에서 르 꼬르뷔제의 영향을 유추할 수 있었던 만큼, 근대 사회주거의 혁신을 위해 주도적 활동을 했던 그의 성과가 분야 전반에 걸쳐 잠재적 기반으로 작용함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 그 영향을 평가할 때 구체적인 건축 유산의 차원을 넘어, 사회 변화에 합리적으로 대처하며 건축으로써 삶의 방식 자체를 제어했던 근본철학에 의의를 두고 판단할 필요가 있다. 마지막으로, 프랑스의 현대 사회주거의 질적 혁신 시도와 그 건축적 배경을 고찰하여 아직도 양적 충족에 주안점을 두는 우리나라 공공주택의 공간적 가치 향상을 위한 참고 선례로 활용되는 데 연구의 궁극적 의의가 있다.
