This thesis discusses today's demand in spiritual direction and the matter of mind in the process of spiritual direction. Today we live in an era where pluralistic values are respected more than ever before. People are filled with spiritual desire, but think that being a spiritual person means more than belonging to a specific religion. If the church does not exercise authentic discernment, it will face a crisis in its identity. Therefore, the church must disengage itself from pouring traditional values without individual realization, but rather help each individual consciously respond to Christian values in his or her own life. Spiritual direction plays an great role in that matter. Anyone can receive spiritual direction, but not everyone can give spiritual direction. One of the most important virtues in spiritual direction is spiritual discernment. The Bible understands it as a special gift and at the same time as a general gift. In this thesis, spiritual discernment will be considered as a universal gift, and it will discuss the ontological qualifications for it. Paul refers to this as a ‘renewed mind,’ and the ‘mind of Christ’ (1 Cor. 2:16). The ‘mind of Christ’ is a state in which the inner union with Christ has been attained through the Holy Spirit, and the person can see things with the mind of Jesus Christ. Moral maturity is the basis of Spiritual discernment, but it results from a spiritual insight by the Holy Spirit. Hence, an authentic spiritual direction in a Christian point of view can be achieved by persons who have been transformed to the mind of Christ.

논문은 영성지도의 시대적 필요성과 영성지도 과정에서 요청되는 분별의 문제를 다루고 있다. 오늘 우리는 어느 때보다도 다원적 가치를 존중하는 시대를 살고 있다. 그리고 사람들은 영적인 갈망으로 가득 차 있지만, 영적인 사람이 된다는 것은 특정한 종교에 소속하는 것 이상의 의미를 지닌다고 생각한다. 이 때 교회가 진정성 있는 분별력을 발휘하지 못하면 교회는 그 정체성에 있어서 심각한 위기를 맞게 될 것이다. 그래서 교회는 전통적인 가치를 개인의 자각 없이 일방적으로 주입하는 방식으로부터 벗어나, 각 개인이 자기 자신의 삶의 자리에서 자각적으로 그리스도교적인 가치에 응답하도록 도와주어야 한다. 이러한 역할이 영성지도이다. 영성지도는 누구나 받을 수 있지만, 누구나 영성지도를 수행할 수는 없다. 영성지도에서 갖추어야 할 가장 중요한 덕목중의 하나가 영적인 분별력이다. 성경은 영적분별을 특별한 은사로 다루고 있지만 동시에 일반적인 은사로 이해하기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 영적분별이란 누구나 수행할 수 있는 보편적인 은사라는 것을 전제하면서, 그 분별에 참여할 수 있는 존재론적 자질에 대해서 논의를 했다. 그것을 바울은 ‘새롭게 된 마음’이요 한 걸음 더 나아가서 ‘그리스도의 마음’이라고 한다(고전 2: 16). ‘그리스도의 마음’이란 성령에 의한 그리스도와의 내적 일치를 이룬 상태를 말하며, 그것으로 인해서 예수 그리스도의 마음으로 사물을 보는 관점을 얻게 된다. 영적분별력은 윤리적 성숙이 기본이 되지만 동시에 성령에 의한 영적통찰력에 의존한다. 그러므로 기독교적 입장에서 진정한 영성지도는 그리스도의 마음으로 변화된 사람에 의해서 수행될 수 있다.
