Preaching and diakonia belong together and they have a complementary relationship. But through the history of the church and the present scenes it is not difficult to see, that there is a certain imbalance between those two elements. In the progressing of such situations, diakonia inevitably disappeared out of the sight of theological interest. Especially, the history of practical theology is practically limited to the church, that it would be wrong to call it the history of pastoral theology. However, according to the bible, to practice works which belong to diakonia and to work for the applying of words of God, both are areas of diakonia. The church has to proclaim diakonia. But at the same time to practice diakonia itself is the Good News. What we can see obviously is that there is no classic paradigm, that the practice of diakonia results only through the proclaiming of the word. This article suggest the conclusion, that the theological diagnosis of the relationship between diakonia and the proclaiming of the word leads to the merging of these two functions. It can be said, that these two functions are two elements with equal values and the same roots, which construct the church through a mutual ralationship. "Diakonian sermon" should not be simply understood as a special or partial part of preaching, but should be understood as something, which reveals an entire horizon of diakonia.

말씀을 선포하는 일과 디아코니아를 실천하는 것은 서로 분리할 수 없는 상보적인 관계를 가지고 있다. 하지만 지나간 교회의 역사 속에서 그리고 현금의 교회현장에서 이 두 가지의 요소가 불균형을 이루고 있음을 우리는 어렵지 않게 확인하게 된다. 이러한 과정에서 디아코니아는 신학적 작업의 시야에서 사라질 수밖에 없었다. 특히 실천신학의 역사도 학문적 목회신학의 역사라 할 만큼 실천영역이 교회 내에 국한되어져 왔다. 하지만 성서에 의하면, 디아코니아 실천과 말씀을 섬기는 일이 모두 디아코니아이다. 교회는 디아코니아를 선포해야 한다. 하지만 동시에 디아코니아실천 자체가 복음의 선포이다. 여기에서 분명하게 확인할 수 있는 것은 말씀선포의 결과로 디아코니아실천이 일어난다는 고전적인 패러다임은 찾아볼 수 없다. 이 글의 결론에 의하면, 디아코니아와 선포의 관계에 대한 신학적인 진단은 오히려 양자의 기능의 합류로 이끈다. 이 두 개의 기능은 동등한 가치를 지닌 것이고 같은 뿌리에 기초한 것으로 두 기능이 상호관계를 통하여 교회가 구성된다고 할 수 있다. “디아코니아적인 설교”는 단순히 설교의 특수한 경우나 부분적인 면으로 이해되어서는 안되고 설교의 디아코니아적인 지평을 드러내는 것이어야 한다.
