This paper proposes a scheme improving the dimensional accuracy of cold forming parts by the simulation capability of the rigid-plastic finite element method. The Finite Element Codes to analyze the 2-dimensional and 3- dimensional forming problems were developed and applied to cold forming processes. The contact search algorithm was also developed, and the method for mapping of state variables was discussed. The contact search scheme was successfully applied to the analysis of forming dies using the result of finite element analysis. the main factors related to the accuracy in the formed parts of cold forming include elastic reduction of die insert after the shrink fitting, elastic deformation of dies during forming processes, elastic recovery of final parts after ejecting processes, die wear during forming process, lubrication, initial geometry of workpiece and tolerance between die and workpiece. The suggested schemes could be applied to improve the dimensional accuracy of final products in the cold forming industry.
