Until now, while it is very uncommon that the concept of poverty and wealth have not been established clearly, even the Bible has diverse understandings of poverty and wealth that cannot be unified into one concept. It was found that the leaders of early church expressed natural ministerial interest in this subject. However, the thoughts of numerous numbers of the Fathers about‘poverty and wealth’and ‘poor people and wealthy people’cannot be all dealt with. Thus, this study will first examine common opinions of the Fathers about‘poverty and wealth’. Then, this study will divide the opinions historically into before and after the Constantine’s official proclamation of Christianity. Moreover, this study have divided the area into east and west and reviewed the thoughts of representative Fathers of each areas on the use of wealth, sharing goods and money and aid. Through this, attempts to understand the thoughts of the historical Fathers on poverty, wealth, poor people and wealthy people were made and have put forward measures for present Korean churches to establish healthy church model that recognizes diversity within the church and proper usage of poverty and wealth properly through the understanding the thoughts of the Fathers on poverty and wealth.

본 논문은 기독교 역사 초기부터 현재에 이르기까지 끊임없이 논의되어진 가 난과 부의 문제를 연구하였다. 지금까지 가난과 부라는 개념만큼 그 정의가 명 확하게 확립되지 못한 주제도 드문 가운데, 성서에도 가난과 부에 대한 이해는 하나의 개념으로 통합할 수 없을 정도로 다양하게 나타난다. 우리는 성서의 가 르침에 충실했던 초대교회 지도자들이 자연스럽게 이 주제에 많은 목회적 관 심을 표명했던 것을 살펴볼 수 있다. 그러나‘가난과 부’그리고‘가난한 자들과 부자들’에 대하여 수많은 교부 들의 생각을 다 다룰 수는 없다. 그렇기 때문에 먼저‘가난과 부’에 대해서 교 부들의 공통적인 의견을 다루려고 한다. 다음으로 시대적인 구분을 하여 콘스 탄틴 대제의 기독교 공인 이전과 이후로 나누어 생각하려고 한다. 또한 지역적 으로 구분하여 동방과 서방의 대표적인 교부들의 기독교적 부의 사용과 물품 과 돈의 공유, 구제 등에 관한 생각을 고찰해 보았다. 이를 통해서 가난과 부 그리고 가난 한 자와 부자에 대한 역사적인 교부들의 이해를 시도해 보려고 하였 으며, 현재 한국교회가 교부들의 가난과 부 그리고 가난한 자와 부자에 대한 이해를 통해 교회 안에 다양성을 인정하면서 가난과 부를 올바르게 사용할 수 있는 건강한 교회의 모델을 정립할 수 있도록 제언하였다.
